Waxing process

Im sure this has been mulled over 1000 times on here, but im a newbie to this and need your help.

I've really neglected the finish of my pos 92 mercury capri for the past 6 months, now finally I have the motovation to do something. Prior to this, I really detailed the car and got the paint looking good with the mother's 3 step system (im too cheap for Klasse or Zaino stuff) but that has more than worn off by now.

Basically im looking for a system of off the shelf products to get it looking semi new again!

So far this is my plan (please tell me if this is even close to good, lol!)

1. Wash car with Dawn

2. Clay bar

3. Wash with meguiars gold class shampoo

4. Mothers step 1 pre-wax cleaner

5. Mothers step 2 ???? glaze/sealer

6. Nufinish for deep shine????

7. Mothers step 3 pure carnuba

I would skip # 3 as you would have already washed with Dawn.

#6> Don't use Nufinish it's not worth the bottle they put it in.

It seems like you need durability since its been 6 mths since your last chance to wax. Why not consider a sealant. Much easier to take care of. Add up all the separate products that you require from Mothers and compare total cost.

#1-OK.

#2-OK.

Skip #3 no need to wash if your going to polish.

#4- Look for 3M's Perfect-it Swirlmark Remover, they have one for light colors and dark colors, or Meguiar's #9-2.0

#5- 3M's Inperial hand glaze, or Meguiar's #7.

#6- Meguiar's #20 or Liquid Glass.

#7- Meguiar's #27 or Meg's gold class, One Grand's Blitz wax is only $15 and it's one of the best waxes one can buy. Useing a wax on top of a sealant is not a must, the protection from a good sealant like #20 is much stronger than a Carnauba wax and will last much longer than one. But us Aotopians just like waxing are cars to much.:D

All the products you listed will work, but i think the products i listed are better and may work better for you.

Good Luck.:)

Cool, thanks for the suggestions guys,.... I have had good experiences with Meguiars before so maybe Ill give Andre's suggestions a shot. A store right down the street from me has all the professional grade waxes he recommended, so its convient.

Just another quick question here, say I wanted to put more wax/sealant on a month later, would I repeat the whole above process or just apply more #20 and then do a coat of #27?

Sorry for the ignorant questions, Im new to doing all these complex steps!... lol

Well it depends:

If you have swirls that are light ... seal the car with more wax and hide them, you don't want to polish until you need to and wax will hide light swirls.

If you have heavy swirling ... polish the surface then layer your glaze or wax.

If your surface is perfect ... clean with shampoo and re-layer wax or glaze or both.
