waxing another persons car

We all have the expensive products(waxes and polishes ) for our cars and 4x4s.When you wax someone elses car or truck do you use your own products or look on the shelf for some cheaper wax?Do you use zaino for your wifes car?would you use klasse for dads car it its out of your own personal stock?Anybody lend souvern to a friend to wax a car?I can just imagine the answers?who out there goes for the Turtle Wax when someone(who you don't care for) asks HEY what wax do you use?

I use mine own stock on family and friends cars and on paying customers. My own stock is Meguiar's so its reasonable.

I do have a can of Rain Dance Paste Wax I got in a grap bag I use for a loaner!!! :scared

I use all the same products and tools on family cars. Their cars are more affected by the lack of time I get to work on them than the products I use. For example, if I want to detail my mom's Jeep or my dad's truck, I've got to make time for it instead of just hoping I'll have a spare 3-4 hours because that usually doesn't happen during family visits. In other words, I don't cut corners with products but I usually have to with time.

If I were married my wife's car would get the same treatment and attention as mine. I don't understand why some guys neglect the wife's vehicle.....but I don't understand women either so maybe they go hand in hand or something.:nixweiss

There is a recent thread about how to handle loaning/giving products to friends. In a nutshell, for people I like I'll give them pretty much anything they want. Hell, most of the time I'll offer it. I've given some products to fellow Autopian friends just for the asking and they've done the same for me. It's just car products; I can always get more. Friendships are lots more valuable to me that wax and polish.

It depends on how much they pay me. If the $$$ is right then I'll bust out the Blackfire and Souveran on a car. Otherwise I stick to Klasse or Meguiar's Gold Class.

Well I usually give people a choice of what they want to use. However my descriptions of the wax quality sometimes varies from person to person;) .

I usually give a "skimped" Klasse job on a family member's car AND make them help! Something like a 1+1 or a 2+0 AIO/SG and use MGC to wash instead of PBS that I like on my baby. I've applied AIO on damp cars, worked well for me last time.

I feel the same way Bret, if only everyone did.

Hi ALAN81,

Usually what I do is to evaluate the situation. I would ask my family member or friend some of the following questions to get a better idea of their car maintenance habits when it comes down to detailing his/her car.

1. How often does he/she wash the car now?

2. How often does he/she wax or polish the car now?

3. What type of products have they been using?

etc...

Based on these questions and others I ask, I pretty much know what products to use. I would use the same products on their cars that I use on my car. If they don't mine the additional maintenance then I would go with a wax. However, if their always on the go and don't plan to wax the car every 6-8 weeks then I would suggest a polymer for durability and lower maintenance requirements. So it really all depends on the feedback I get from the person that determines what I will use on his/her car. But which ever direction we go, only quality products will be used. Such as Zaino, Klasse, P21S, Pinnacle Paste Glaz or Souveran (depends on color of car), One Grand Blitz Wax. If they do want something cheaper but is still good and that they can get locally, I would recommend the Meguiars Professional Line (beige bottles).

Aloha,

~Ranney
