Waxing a new Car

So my dad went out and bought a new 2002 Lincoln LS V8,

it has 14k miles on it, sweet looking car with 17" Chrome rims and tinted windows.



The car is silver and I told him I would wax it for him to keep it looking as good as new and he said no, the dealer told him he doesn't need to because it has 8 coats of clear coat on it.



What I am looking for here is:



a. The best possible wax reccomendation for his silver paint



b. As many replies as possible backing me up on this topic so I can show him the dealer was wrong here.

For silver paint and for shine I recommend either Klasse or Zaino. A search for silver and wax will turn up something.



LOL would you trust a dealer who is pushing cars or enthusiast detailers that keep their cars immaculate.



Ask the dealer to take a tour of the used car lot. Hmmm, I bet not one of them is in as good as a condition as any one of the cars on this forum.



Ask the dealer to see his car and if he waxes it. I think the dealers car would be in terrible shape. Unless he got a new one every few years.....
 
I agree, just my dad is taking the salesmans word for it at the moment. I will convince him otherwise, I was jsut hoping for a few responses on here to show him later on today.

Does your dad expect that finish from just washing?



Also the E-book is a good reference guide. I am waiting for V 2.1 to come out.

Your clearcoat is clear paint, not an invisible barrier that protects your car from evil. :eek:

Those are just the kind of answers I was looking for. Just more fuel for my fire attack against his salesman.



His car looks really nice, but he has no idea how nice it can look.

Unfortunately my wife had to work Monday so I was unable to get up to Ft. Collins. Maybe next time if there is one...
 
Our Volvo wagon was owned by someone who fell for that "you don't need to wax it because of the special paint" line. By the time I got it the paint was severely oxidized and otherwise, irreparably, cosmetically damaged. You need SOMETHING to protect your clearcoat. Even if its appearance is of little concern to your father, the difference in retained value can be astonishing.



As I recall, AutoInt supplies to Ford and its subsidiaries. Check out what THEY have to say about the fragility of clearcoats. In many instances, they are the "experts" that tell Ford what's what. You might ask that salesman where he got his (ludicrous) "information". I'd bet that he made it up because he thought it would help him make a sale.



As to what product to use, different silvers look, well, different. Some look a lot better with certain products than they do with others and personal preference comes into play. I myself would go with something long lasting that has a "carnauba-like" appearance, like BFII or PUPP. I think the LS would look better with a "rich, deep" look than with a "bright, reflective" one.

Agreed 110 %, with a slight edge to BF II........Top with S100...BF and PUPP are quite unique products, very effective in bringing out different shades in different lighting....thats what I call "rich"....
 
thanks again for the replies, I would like to have the car have a more deep than shiny one. He deffinately cares about the look of the car. It is the nicest one he has ever owned, so I want to help him keep it that way.
