This thread might be worth a read. I've got more advice on ocdetails.com, but that post has enough for you to really get started with.
There are some basic steps to proper detailing. I call it the 3 Ps. Someone else may have called it that before me, but whatever. The 3 Ps are "Polish Protect Perfect" Sometimes the Protect and the Perfect are the same product, but not always. You need something to polish and clean the paint. Sometimes that gets broken down into multiple steps as well. Clay, paint cleaner, and swirl removal are going to require 3 different products. That would be part of the Polish P. The Protect P would be a sealant or wax. Sometimes the job ends there, but other times you use a sealant that is durable, but you need to top it with wax to get the perfect look you are searching for. That is up to you.
My standard process would be like this:
Wash
Clay
Paint Cleaner
Swirl Removal
Wolfgang Pre Wax Polish Enhancer (it makes for a good surface for the sealant to bond to by removing any fillers or oils from the previous steps)
Wolfgang Paint Sealant
That does it for the paint pretty much. Obviously that isn't a weekly routine, but I do that 2 or 3 times a year. Anyway, check out
www.ocdetails.com if you want serious overload on how I do things. There are more than one ways to skin a cat in this business, so take my advice with a grain of salt. Your methods and results may vary.
