Waterspots on glass

My car has horrible waterspots on the glass. I have tried vineger, windex etc. The only way I have fould to get them off it to use something like Medium Cut compound, yellow pad, and a rotory.

Is there a liquid that will reove them?

Thanks!

You can try some steel wool, I think you want the #0000 grade (the finest). Some like it here. I have a friend who tried everything including the steel wool and the spots never came out. I have stuff called Duragloss NuGlass and the spots came right out. So give that a try. You can order it online or some local places might have it, such as NAPA. Good luck

Zaino Glass Polish would be another alternative. It works pretty well for things like that.

I have had instances, tho where Zaino GP or NuGlass would not remove the spots and in those cases, I resorted to #0000 steel wool and lots of Stoners Invisible Glass as a buffer between the glass and steel wool.

~One man’s opinion / observations ~

· Autoglym Car Glass Polish™, and #0000 steel wool, use straight line motions only circular motions cause swirl marks

· Or apply a quarter size amount of Autoglym Car Glass Polish™ (See note 1) to a damp foam pad attached to a Porter-Cable random orbital buffer using speed # 4.

· Apply to half of the windshield, polishing first in an up and down motion then in a left-to-right motion and then repeat on the other side

· Wipe off any residue from glass and dry with a damp waffle weave towel

· Inspect glass for clarity and smoothness. Repeat if necessary.

Note

1. For deeply etched ‘water spots’ or pits (caused by sand or road stones) in the glass surface, do not attempt to polish them out, consult an automotive glass vendor as glass used on later model cars is soft and thin (this may vary by manufacturer) due to weight / cost savings by vehicle manufactures and polishing could cause glass to crack.

~Hope this helps~

I tried zaino glass polish, didn't do anything on water spots, results may differ if you have a machine, I did it by hand.

I had to do a car with a lot of water spots the other day.

I tried 1(water):1(rubbing alcohol) and got nothing. Then I tried 3(water):1(vinegar) and got nothing. Tried out Poorboy's Professional Polish on the paint and the windows. I had good luck on the windows (I dont think the windows got "etched" as much... if thats even possible). But I needed something more aggressive on the paint.

I used a PC with a polishing pad on 4 or something like that for the windows.

CLR that you can by at Home Depot has work well in the past for me. I have used a solution of 1/2 water and 1/2 acid(like you use for your pool) for more cutting power on spots you can feel with your fingers but, you must be VERY careful not to get it on your clear coat so I spray it on a rag first then wipe the glass. May take a couple of passes.

Again, you can spray it on the glass but be very careful with any overspray. Even dilution at this rate can damage clear coat and rubber if left on to long.

what do you guys think about a razor blade? for the glass of course. I saw a car dealer doing this once.

using the edge of the blade, going up and down. Side to side. and amzingly enough, the waters spots from the glass came off.

Anyone given a metal/chrome polish a go. Wenol, Autosol, Blue Magic. Either liquid or cream forms take scratches off glass so I reckon waterspots could be removed also. Haven't tryed it due to not having water spots.

Try it, if it works you will be set. You COULD scratch the glass if you were being really careless (if you turned the blade to the points), but overall its a pretty safe thing to do. It also works well for removing stickers. :D (just watch out if the stickers are on tint or on the defroser things)
