Water useage

How much water are we all using per wash

The government and waterless wash companies down here in OZ are saying that a home wash uses 250 to 300 litres. Well maybe that would be if you leave the hose going as you hand wash but I've been seeing how low I can go.

Currently down to 50 to 60 litres aka 13 to 17 gallons

2 x 10 litre buckets to dop wheels, tyres and wells

2 x 10 for body wash

30 seconds with foam gun connected to hose

1 x rinse with hose (most times)

Occasionally I do the rinse with hose for about 1 minute and then spray on vanishing act or 1Z raindance and do another rinse with 12 litre watering can

I don't do a water rinse before doing the body or wheels as it does nothing but remove the finest amount of dust and will not lubricate the paint when this dust is sliding off the paint. this is why I go straight to the foam gun

Several months ago I worked out how much water is used per minute with a hose and no nozzle and a pressure washer.

No Nozzle - 8 litres per 30 seconds, pressure - 7 per minute

What's your useage like people????

2-3 gallons per car in my mobile business using ONR. Prior to ONR when I was doing a conventional wash I would use from 5-12 gallons on most vehicles. Lower end if I used my 12volt pump set up, higher end if I used my pressure washer.

2 Litres, using DP 4n1, ONR or QEW for average size sedan / hatch washing body only.

:woot:

due to water restrictions we cannot wash normally, so I purchase drinking water from a supermarket in 6 Litre plastic containers for a few dollars & use above every week or so...

after two months i do a sneaky late night proper wash at a car wash place, using my own bucket, carwash, mitt and warm water... I use their hose for pre-rinse & final rinse...

:grinno:

another litre or two for the wheel wells, wheels and tires too btw.

how i wish it'd rain for a year straight to fill our dams so life could get back to normal!!!

:grrr

SVR,

How you going?

How is the new place coming along?

I did a wash yesterday, and i anticipate i used about 70 litres in all, 20 litres of this would be in Grit Gaurd bucket for washing.

Have been harvesting rain water an filtering it before it goes through the Karcher as we cannot use mains water at all in Victoria.

Regards,

Simon

Yes slow progress but having a ball.

I'm having fun mixing up all sorts of fancy concoctions and getting the results I want

That's pretty good.

We have a rainwater tank and pump at home and I'll be using that on occasions. hopefully we can afford to get a big tank, pump, catchment mat, submersible pump and storage tank here so I can wash legally inside the shop.
