Water Spots on carbon fiber??

Okay so a friend just came over because we were going to throw a coat of Z2pro on his new carbon fiber hood in order to protect it. He had just washed his car at home, which has fairly hard water, and there is some spotting on the hood. I figured a quick spray of Z8 would clear that up, but no go. I tried some clay on it (not sure if that usually helps or not), and it didn't do a thing.... is there any particular trick to getting water spots off of a carbon fiber hood?? Any quick help here is appreciated

I've generally had to use marine products like 3m cleaner wax for boats since its gel coated.
