STUTTGART'S FINEST
Stumbled on this article on Water-Borne paint, thought I'd share with you guys!

Water-Borne Paint Care

Note the section stating that and I quote "Because water borne paints are more porous, it is more important than ever to keep the finish sealed from environmental pollution and to maintain gloss and protection."

Sounds like a good candidate for ZAINO.

Hope you enjoy this one.

Nice site for products as well.

Strange because its a pretty well known fact modern paint is harder than the old stuff.

Thicker too.

Makes it more chip-resistant and gives a better shine when its compounded.

How any paint can be 'porous' is beyond me .... because if it was water vapour would penetrate and corrode the metal underneath.

Just my 0.02

P.S. Can someone politely tell him its 'Peel' and not 'Peal'.

'Peel' belongs on an Orange , 'peal' is what bells do.

Doh .. **edit*

Coarse .. course .....

Plus he seems to think glazing a freshly-painted car is a good thing.

I would go near the stuff for quite a while.

Paint remains soft for weeks .... I wouldnt wanna be responsible for ruining a paint job.

*sigh*

Under 'stripe removal' I fail to see how poilshing will get rid of the paint fading on the whole vehicle.

If a stripe has been on a car for 10 years, the paint underneath is going to be damn near brand new and stick out like a sore thumb against the rest of slightly faded paintwork.

Now polishes are wonderful things but they cant reverse UV damage.

Finally ... this one :

Special Note: Polymer Sealants are designed with an open linked molecule and need approximately 48 hours from the time of application to properly cross link and bond with the vehicles painted surface. Be sure that the surface of the vehicle can be left undisturbed from rain and water for this period of time or the surface protection may be compromised.

Is this actually true ?

Im not a manufacturer so I wouldnt know .. tho I do read the bottles.

Smoker,

I guess you never read my post on Lexus paint on a new '03 SC430!

Within 15days of ownership, (not a daily driver by any means, garaged and only driven on small parkway or local road) I have several chips! One good size on hood, several on front bumper and found two more on passenger side mirror.

I've been after Lexus to investigate the problem, but I'm the only one they say has this problem reported... Only takes one to get it started..

Anyway, I had the dealership repair the chips prior to Armorglove being installed. Well, they did a terrible job! Missed all on the bumper and mirror and the one on the hood you could feel through the Armorglove and now it looks as it may be getting darker!

Todays paint IMO is more brittle than before! Chips more so than previous paints I know of.

After checking numerous cars in my condo that are daily drivers, none have the damage mine did. I also have a '98 Ford Escort, white, company car with 112K miles and no big stone hits! Small hits, look like freckles.

Anyway, I just thought the article was interesting to get a viewpoint from another vendor.

Everything is porous to a degree.

So maybe not the best article, but wanted a different slant on things.

Keep cool... Hot as hell up here!

'Brittle' means hard.

Soft means pliable and forgiving.

They make automotive paint really hard nowadays so it wont scratch as easy, but it leaves it more susceptible to paint chips unfortunately.

Manufacturers spend alot of $$ researching into how to use as few coats of paint as possible while maintaining a good finish and durability.

Imagine how much paint someone like Lexus gets through in a DAY!

Yes I read your post about Lexus and armorglove ... no comment - theres two sides to every story im sure.

I've had run-ins with dealerships before, hence I prefer to buy my vehicles privately.

If i make a mess and buy a POS.. only me to blame.

I've also dealt with customers who make a boo-boo and try and blame someone else.

Hey .. anyways I'm chilled.

So's the beer sat right here next to me.
