Watch The Progress Of My Garage

Well we have started...The garage is stripped down right now of most of the junk. Getting ready to install some more electrical outlets, tear down the remaining peg board, and start painting the cieling. We are going to get a commercial spray gun from my brother and paint the cieling black. Epoxy the floor...etc. Check back every couple of days for any updates on the pictures.

Definately looking forward to watching this, looks like you've got a pretty nice garage to begin with. Mine is pretty tight but hey, my parent's let me use one side so I'm very lucky and appreciative.
 
Plenty of room for a tiki bar, a plasma TV, maybe an Xbox 360, a La-Z-Boy, and micro-fridge unit!



I want to see how it turns out since my garage is a raw shell too. Give us details, along with names and prices of products used.

Will Do! Glad to see a couple people interested in watching, Im not sure what kind of time frame we are looking at until completion but of course Im anxious to get going! :) We're picking up 6 of the 13 pieces of drywall tonight
 
Has anyone used the cement sheetrock in their garages (The sheet rock used in shower stalls) So they can wash inside their garage (With a drain of course)? I'll hopefully be buying my first house by the end of this year and of course will be more concerned with the garage then probably any other area of the house! LOL...Not really but it will be top of mind!



I figured if you can use that sheetrock, cover the walls with either tile (way expensive) or the faux tile paneling (caulk all seems), that may make a failry "waterproof" area for washing.



The garage is def coming along! How about adding a low rise lift!

As much as I would love to go all out, I am cutting expenses as it is so as to not go overboard with costs. The money was essentially a gift from my dad to use for making the garage better for detailing. I usually wash cars outside anyways, or can use ONRW in the garage because we have a drain. He wants me to spend the money on stuff I can take with me when I buy my own house so I can still use those things. Also, Im trying to not go overboard bc I want my parents to use some of that money for themselves rather than just on me and my brother.

I hear ya! It's awesome your folks helping you! Very smart move if you plan on moving out! Most of what I mentioned will only be pipe dreams for me anyway! LOL But I love spending other people's money too! Who doesn't right!

What floor coating have you decided on? I have heard different things about the various types...ones that work ones that don't..... If you go with the epoxy coating, I believe that prep is 90% of the finsish (like anything else) and I think I recall hearing someone mention that the proportions the directions call for are slightly off. I think I saw on one of my car forums that using it as directed (forgot what brand they used) didn't leave as strong as a bond as when you alter it. Probably not much help here other then noting that you should do a lil research on the floor coating that you decide on which I am sure you would have anyway.

There are a few spots in the floor we have to fill in before we start the complete prep...We are going with the Rustoleom Epoxy floor coating, I want to try and find some sort of sealer we can put over it to make sure it is durable and we dont see any cracking in the paint.
 
Update for work done on April 22 - Drywall has been put up, still have a couple more sheets to cut and put up.

I have a question open to opinions..We are painting the walls white, cieling black, and staining the peg board, window trim white, gray epoxy - What color should I do the cabinet you see in some of the pictures and the one we are going to build as well as the peg boards trim..should we stain them also or what? Thanks for the help -Josh

We did it in our downstairs basement where my dads workshop is as well as his outside workshop building..and I like the look of it. Not a big fan of the natural wood with the white walls and grey flooring. The wood seems to draw your attention too much to the cieling
 
Personally I would paint everything white. Even the ceiling. The more white/light colors you go the brighter it will be in the garage and the more you will like it when detailing.
 
^ Really? Dont you think with white it will look dirty faster? hmm you've given me something to think about here - we have a couple days to decide as of now we are building the recyle bins closet - just got in from putting more putty on the drywall ... cant wait to get some paint on the walls
 
Everything white. A black ceiling will lower the reflected light from your existing fixtures.

The floor should be light in color too. Maybe light grey.



My garage used to be dark wood and I painted it all white and installed 12 T8 bulbs. What a difference.
 
I would go with all white because of refacted light as Danse suggested, put up twice as many strip lights as you think you'll need, then double it!If thats not possible maybe get some extra mobile halogen stand type lights then you can take then with you ,move them outside, ect.won't rip the shirt off your back to do this.

It might also be worth painting a 3 inch 'skirting board' round the edge as I have found when you sweep to the edge or mop, it makes the white wall slightly dirty where you catch the wall with the edge of the broom.

It may not be seen in the pictures, but there is a cement skirting I guess you would call it that sticks out about .5 to an inch from the drywall and is an inch in height. I'll get a picture of this when I update the pictures today :)
 
Yeah, I would do everything white. I have grey walls and a black ceiling in my basement and the light does not reflect good at all. I wish I had painted it white now.

We didnt go with normal insulation..What we're going to do is shoot some insultation into the walls...He said this is better?? Dont ask me why; maybe because it fills up every possible inch? Who knows! But yes..I will definately need it in winter :)
