Washing with hot or cold water?

Is there a significant difference when washing. Does the water temp. make any difference?
 
I always start with fairly hot water for cleaning and comfort reasons. I'm sure I could clean the car with icy-cold water, but warm water does clean better and is much easier on the hands. It is never really hot because i'll fill my wash bucket about halfway with hot water and then give it a top off with the hose outside, so the most it ever gets is moderately warm.
 
I like to use warm water too. I have hot and cold water running to my hose, so at least I can adjust it. I try to somewhat match the rise water with the temperature. I don't like putting hot water on cold paint, or cold water on a warm paint surface.
