Best to treat them like your paint. The clear on your wheels will thank you in the long run. It is still a good idea to have dedicated wash media for your wheels.
The problem is that the stuff you're cleaning off the wheels is often *VERY* abrasive, and cheap MFs can often instill marring in-and-of themselves. I prefer soft wash media that area very free-rinsing (hence the BHB that I mentioned on your other "wheel cleaning" thread).
