Washing MF towels...ur opinions

I am curious how everyone washes their MF towels. Right now I wash each towel by hand with no soap and throw them in the dryer. How do you guys do it? And for those who actually wash their MF towels in the washing machine...do you guys actually use your own personal washing machine or go to a laundromat to do it...and if you use your personal washing machine, aren't you afraid of the chemicals getting into your clothes. What kind of soap does everyone use to wash their MF towels. I hear only use liquid types of soap and don't use Dawn because it destroys the life of the MF towels. Thanks and have a wonderful day.

I would recommend using a mild laundry detergent i.e. Tide to wash your micro fiber towels. Use warm water. You can also line dry them or you may also put them in the dryer at low or air temperature. I personally wash my micro fiber towels by hand just to make sure I can inspect each micro fiber towel for any contaminant that may be lodged between the fibers. However, if I have used them to buff off wax/polish I will soak them in a mixture of warm water and tide for 1/2 to 1 hour. Then rinse them thoroughly. Yes, you are correct using Dawn will actually damage the micro fibers which will cause premature wear.

I am curious as well. They are both just high pH detergents are they? How can one be different than the other in how it works on fabrics?
 
I machine wash all my towels, (liquid detergent preferred) never use fabric softener. Wash all MF together, do not mix with cotton towels, etc. Line dry or on low heat permanet press or cool cycle only. I have a seperate machine for all my car towels. Keeps the wife happy.;)
 
I am concerned about the same thing. Now I just wash them by hand using liquid Tide detergent and warm water... and dry them in a dryer with the “delicate� switch selected. Afterwards, I wipe down the insides of the dryer with Clorox anti-bacterial wipes.
 
Guys,



MF's are made of Polyester and Polyamide. If they were unstable to the point of leeching in a washing maching with a mild detergent or in a low heat dryer, than I would not want to be using them at all.



I would hope that they do not leech during washing, especially since I bought a couple of MF dish towels for my wife.



Ranney, Tom, or any other person with a chemical background...Please comment to educate us all!

Not caused leeching, but leeched themselves.



peiqinglong was concerned about MF's leaving chemicals behind in the washer and/or dryer. This is called leeching.



Inputs from someone with a bit more knowledge on MF chemistry would be appreciated.

I think he meant the chemicals that were on the MF from detailing their cars like QD, wax etc etc...not chemicals from the MF themselves....



I wash in washing machine with HOT water and a FREE laudry detergent.....I then inspect washer...if I have "ring around the tub" I will wipe this out with a paper towel and rewash the MFs again with more detergent...when I get no ring around the tub...I put the washer back on the rinse cycle for a double rinse.....



Then I vacuum out dryer and maybe wipe down with a swiffer and then toss MFs in ....I set it on a low to med heat setting....and come back later to see if dry...when dry I shake them out....and then fold and place them back in plastic baggiessssss.....



Works for me....



Important tips here:



Wash and dry separately.

FREE detergent

Hot water (check tags you get with them they all say hot water)

Double rinse

Clean dryer of any lint

Medium dryer heat max.

Yea basically that's what I was asking about...Guess My Name hit it on the spot. Because what I do right now is rinse out each individual mf towel by hand running it through water with no soap right now and then wringing it dry and throwing it into the dryer. I am thinking of going to the laundromat and washing it there, but that would just be like taking my problems to some place else and plus that would be wrong for whoever uses the machine after me. So my only other option would to continue to wash it by hand...which is a very time consuming due to the fact that me and my friend have a total of roughly 50 towels...25 of which we use and the other 25 for backup. My friend and me have accidentally screwed up 2 or 3 times now. We've washed the towels using the regular powered detergent...because i usually wash my clothes with that (Clorex or whatever). And recently they've caused streaking on our cars...which we got out after washing our cars and mf towels by hand again. I recall reading that this pernamently damages the towels...tell me it's not true because i do not want to toss 25 mf towels. I wonder is there any way to save them? Thanks everyone for the help thus far!
