Washing a car with no prior wax

I am going to be washing a car, in preperation for claybar, that has had no previous wax on it.

Should I use a normal (for example Meguiares) car wash soap or go for something that would eliminate any oils/wax (if there was) from the cars surface?

In addition, since I am going to be rewashing the car after I claybar it, should I change up my previous wash method?

Having said all that, I have access to both sponges (clean new ones, never been used) and microfiber wash mits. Any preference as to which would be better? Why?

Im going to follow up by removing swirls/scrates, then putting on AIO and some NXT.

A: A sponge has a flat surface, which may trap grit/dirt between the sponge and the paint surface causing scratches

The Microfiber mitt is only slightly better in so far as it does have a limited nap to it but they tend to compress when they become wet and will act in a similar manner to a sponge

As Burlyq has suggested a sheep-skin mitt has a long nap that wonâ€â„¢t compress and any dirt/grit is held harmless in its fibres until it can be rinsed
