Wash Mitt Storage? Yes it's a serious question.

How do you store your wash mitts?

I like to place them in a closed bin to keep them clean...but im concerned about mildew, mold etc. But if I leave them in something open to air dry Im worried about particulates landing on them!

How do you store yours?

Photos of custom setups would be awesome.

Thanks!

I just lay mine over the rim of the wash bucket.

I used to hang them up to dry and otherwise overkill the whole thing, but finally decided it wasn't necessary. Note that I have a very clean shop so no fear of contamination...

As for mine, I just let it dry then it's on a shelf in the garage - I figure any dust is gonna rinse right off next wash.

I use two mitts for the car. After I rinse, wring out and set them in two different buckets on grit guards. Usually they are dry in a day or two and I put them in plastic bags in a plastic storage bin.

This is what we normally do, but we have 6-10 mitts in circulation at any given time. I think Ill just hang a small wire shelf on the wall in the wash bay.

I wash mine with rest of MF. Then I hang dry in the laundry room. Then I put in gallon ziploc. I used to dry them but I noticed the fabric behind MF fingers would age prematurely (holes, rips, tears, etc) so I have done a hang dry ever since.

I launder my wash mitts and MF towels following the weekly clean up routine. I put things away slightly damp as they come from the dryer. I've used a hole saw to cut holes in each side of my storage bins:

This has worked well for me. Others have expressed the concern about rodents, etc. being able to enter the boxes. That has not been a problem here.

I wash my wash mitts with microfiber soap in the machine then I let them dry on a grit guard then I bag them up.

*I wouldn’t bother bag them if I was detailing at home.

4u2nvinmtl- Are those MF mitts that you wash in MF detergent? I do my MF ones in MF detergent, my sheepskin ones in Woolite (on the rare occasions that I wash them at all).

For wool mitts as per Pats300zx. I use 22 oz bombers or 750 ml bottles (wine or beer, these sometimes have extra heavy bases so they are more stable). You can store them that way if you have room with a plastic bag over the the top, keeps dust out but allows air to circulate. IMO the CarPro mitt is the best of the easy-to-obtain wool mitts but if you're up for ordering from the UK the Dooka pads and the Dodo Juice Supernatural Short Hair mitt are very nice.
I stick mine over a longneck beer bottle. Aids in drying ....

Microfiber mitts & pads, which I've mostly switched to except for the softest paints, I just store them in the same closed plastic tuns that I use for my washing and drying MF towels

You lost me there....why not dry them completely before putting them away?

Accumulator, were you sleeping during Home Ec 101 class :o Old Wives' tale has it that you pull things slightly damp from the dryer...supposed to be easier on the fibre than drying it 100%.

Let me define "damp": 90% - 95% dry, low heat setting. :)

tom p.- Heh heh, "Home Ec" :D Guys didn't take that at my HS. But hey, I *do* do 99.999% of the household laundry, Accumulatorette figures I'm more particular about it than she'd ever be.

That said, I'm not putting anything away while damp for fear of the moisture causing issues. Stuff gets "musty" too readily here. I do hang/lay/etc.-dry some textiles (shrinkage-prone stuff primarily), but only on drying racks where I have good airflow around them. But I'm not gonna do that for my detailing stuff, I spend too much time/effort on this detailing as it is.

Edit- Actually, I *do* take certain things out of the dryer while slightly damp and hang 'em to dry the rest of the way, but that's to preserve their elastics. No elastic concerns with my detailing stuff.
