Wash Mitt or Natural Sea Sponge

The snow is still here...but hopefully not for long. Need your advice on whether to buy a wash mitt (if so, which brand) or a natural sea sponge (if so, which brand)?

I've been using the 'Detailer's Choice' chenille pads that Pep Boys sells for a few years now. Real soft and a very thick nap so any dirt or grime that gets in it is less likely to find it's way back to your paint.

Dos,

The sea sponges are wonderful to wash with. They really hold the water and suds BUT they are easily torn by sharp edges and if not properly "prepped" before your first use they can harbor sand and grit and mar your paint.

They are also very expensive. If you get a deep sea sponge it is best to use the curved or rounded portion and not the side that has been cut.

As Scott mentioned, wash mitts are great and the chenille type arevery soft with lots of little "fingers" to trap in the grit. With either one just make sure you rinse it often while washing.

There is also a micro-fiber wash mitt out which I have been using for several months now and really like it.

Personally I prefer 100% cotton wash mitts. They work well and are cheap enough to replace when they get to the point of no return. I don't like sponges for the reasons Anthony mentioned. To me it's not worth the risk of sand still being in the sponge and causing paint damage.

Here to confuse you even more :D is another view: Genuine sheepskin mitts. They're easier to find locally than true 100% cotton chenille mitts, are really soft, and you can "fluff" the dirt out of them easier than either MF or chenille in my opinion. Just make sure the one you pick feels soft (it can vary by batch) and has real leather inside.
