Want some advice on my detail plan...

Although I do read this website every day and have invested in equipment and supplies, I have never actually used the PC yet. I am kind of new to detailing. I have done about every other thing to my cars in detailing them (pressure wash, foam gun, microfiber, etc.).

I plan to detail my Toyota Truck this weekend. It was purchased new in 12/05. It is Phantom Pearl Gray color. Only has 2500 miles on it, so not a alot of time on the road. This is what I plan to do. Can I get some input on this plan?

1. Rinse down and Wash with foam gun using Chemical Brothers car wash
2. Clay entire truck using top of the line clay and Adam's detail spray for lubricant (I got plenty of this stuff) Clay glass also.
3. Wash truck again and leave wet
4. Use FK1 Mini buff light compound #330 and the PC to the entire car including headlights and tail lights. Can someone tell me what color edge pads to use? I seem to have very light scratches (don't feel with fingernail) I have a full set of edge pads. What speed?
5. Remove dust with microfiber and 50/50 alcohol distilled water mix.
6. Apply AutoGlym super resin polish and buff when dry with edge pads. Again, can someone please tell me what color edge pad, what speed, or if I should just use a microfiber to remove, as suggested on the bottle? (They don't even mention buffing at all with a machine).
7. Finish up with various chemicals on the rubber/vinyl trim and chrome bumper and windows.

Sorry about being so dumb, but I want to get this right since this is my first time with the polishe and I need a plan.

Thanks to everyone.

Step #3 - could be skipped IMO. What's the point?

Step #4 - I don't know about what color to use, but as far as the pad cut, I'd suggest a polish pad. I usually run the PC wide open @ speed 6.

Step #6 - I don't know that I'd use the foam pad to buff with. Catch a MF with the pad and buff with that if you feel that's what you need to do. Are you planning on "spit shining" or anything? I'd use a MF to remove the residue from your LSP, and then consider spit shining if that's the route you want to go.

It seems like you have a defininte plan set out, and that's good. Good luck and have fun.

Your wash sounds fine. Next using the Adams QD spray as lube I see no reason to wash the truck again....I don't.....Just make sure that you wipe each panel clean as you go over the truck....The FK1 compound sounds a bit aggressive on new type paint...I would start with the AutoGlym with a Edge polish pad...set on 3 or 4...this should remove most if not all of your minor swirls according to what you have described...for removing the residue use a good MF towel without the 50/50 alcohol mixture.....This method is for checking your work in a small area not wiping the whole car down... For a last step I would be looking for a sealant or paste wax...of which I didn't see you list...hope this helps
