Wanna Help a Newbie???

Hello all!

I recently bought my first "real" car, a 1995 GT Mustang in Rio Red. I have already caught the detailing bug. I was hoping that you guys could help me with the first of my many detailing purchases.

The paint is in good shape for an almost ten year old car. It has light swirl marks all over, with the occational slightly deeper scratch and chip.

What combination of products should I use on this car to get the deepest, shiniest finish? I need to know everything: what kind of soap, polish, glaze, wax, as well as applicators and other accesories.

I would like to put off buying a PC for a while because my parents are going to think I am crazy for buying all this stuff in the first place, not to mention a $150 buffer.

Thanks a lot and sorry for the book.

Welcome to Autopia!

I think you should first spend time reading some of the "how-to" articles and downloading the free guide to detailing book:

http://www.autopia-carcare.com/how-to.html

Then do some more reading on these forums and look at some of the results in the "Click and Brag" forum.

By doing the above you will increase your knowledge and youâ€â„¢ll be able to ask some more specific questions which the members here will be more than happy to answer.

Congratulations on your car, but a PC will really help you resolve your paint problems much, much faster and easier than by hand. It may be a good item to put on your Christmas list.

Ooh, red is an awesome color to play around with. It's got depth, gloss, shine, and everything else that most other colors don't have all of.

Obviously, you're going to get reccomendations for everything. What you might hear alot of is the 1Z line. They have great polishes, sleanants, etc. Alot of them are friendly with hand application. The best part about this line, is that Autopia sells alot of it and you can get discounts when you become a member of the Autopia Buyers Club.

Good luck.

Gunny,

It's in the referenced threads, but once you learn the techniques any products will work. You'll find the ones whose characteristics best fit your style of working, and you'll get awesome results!

And, you just spent a ton on the car, what's an extra buck and a half for the PC? It's a small amount to protect your investment. I'll tell you this, one of the reasons I got hooked on this stuff is because I was spending too much money modding my car; it costs a lot less to keep it looking nice!
