I'm looking for a little help from everyone. I have a VX 5000. Do you guys charge extra for using cleaning the leather when doing a full detail ? My full detail prices are VERY reasonable, just wondering if I should charge extra for using the VX5000 or include it in the price ? And if you do charge extra ....How much ?

Any help is much appreciated.

The way I see it is after incorporating steam into our detailing process and knowing what I can do with it over other methods my competition is using; we are providing a process superior to them. Hence I believe we should be able to charge the maximum of what my market will bear. The important part with it is how you sell it:

-Either no chemicals or a "chemical light" process. Perfect for eco-friendly clients and those with chemical sensitivities.

-Not only will the interior be clean to the naked eye but on the microscopic level as well! Disclaimer: I have no scientific evidence to support this claim but I would certainly hope that 270 degree dry vapor steam kills at least 95% of what is there. The way I pitch it is this "By using 270 degree steam we can eradicate anything living within that environment that cannot sustain those temperatures. This way I'm not selling snake oil.

-Dry within 5 minutes.

-Sanitize AC system/vents.

-Safely clean and sanitize the headliner.

Hope this helps.

It was the best buy I have made for detailing equ. Its heavy duty. I have been using it mobile for only 6 months or so....but it has preformed flawless.

I don't have the VX5000, but a similar Eurosteam. I will agree with how amazing it is using a steamer for interiors and would recommend to any detailer, especially mobile, to pick one up.

Not only does it do the job better and more efficiently than alternative methods (extractor, scrub brush w/ apc, etc..) it also does it much faster. I don't see a need to charge more than my competition when I can get better results in half the time for the same price. The "dry in less than a half-hour" is also a huge advantage when talking to customers.

As far as charging extra for using the steamer, I just consider that one process in my interior detail. It's a tool that I use just like the Makita on exteriors. My interior detail is one price. I never liked the idea of adding a whole lot of "upsell" services.

I am thinking of gettig rid of my thermax in favor of the VX. How does it handle dirty carpets(think family with little kids that eat and drink in the vehicle)?

Some extremely dirty carpets and upholstery will definitely be better suited for an extractor (or vacuum-steam like the thermax), but I do not see those types of details any longer. If you often have that to take care of then I would not recommend getting rid of it completely.

I think using the VX actually speeds up the process of cleaning some spots, door panels, etc. so I don't charge more for it. Besides, you're using less cleaning chemicals.
