VW paint - hard or soft?

Hi y'all,

Not new here, but it's been a looooooong time! I have recently acquired a 2007 VW GTI in "black magic" and am just getting started on being serious about detailing again.

I'm a little confused about the paint...I have read that VW/Audi clears tend to be very hard and maybe even difficult to manage. My experience so far has been quite the opposite! Unless I am interpreting this wrong, I would say that the paint is exceptionally soft. Maybe some of it is just that it's my first black car, but it seems like I'm finding new rock chips every time I drive it!

So, what is the deal with VW paint...anything in particular I need to know before I get started? Please let me know.

Thanks!

Gary

I have a 06 GTI, Tornado Red, and it is hard as a rock!

BUT, this is the funny thing, it is hard as heck to correct the paint yet it is realllly easy to induce marring on the paint. I have had MFs, good quality ones, induce tiny swirls.

So it sucks because it is easy to mar yet it is very very hard clear. :(

Menz. SIP with a orange LC pad can something laugh at your for even trying, especially with a DA.

Hard paint does not always mean less chip resistance as it can sometimes cause more as the paint surface will fracture rather than "bend".
