VW Bug detail

White lexus 23

New member
I had the chance to do some work for a very nice lady. The car was not in horrible shape but was in need of some tlc. This is my first attempt at a click and brag write up. I am not the best photographer. I am still learning on how to take good pictures. Anyway I hope you enjoy.

Here are the before pictures

the car was washed with Meguiars deep crystal car wash. This car wash IMO has very good cleaning power. I use grout sponges which are awesome!

The little bug has a clear bra and the build up of old wax a and dirt was very noticable. a little apc and a brush and a lot of patience

The wheels were cleaned with Meguiars all purpose cleaner. and cleaned with various brushes

all the jambs were cleaned as well.

the car was then clayed rinsed and inspected.

as you can see the paint finish is very dull with no reflection or gloss. The Bug was then prepped for polishing.

The process I chose was Meguiars 105 on the burgandy pad with my porter cable 7424.

I shot a short vid of the before and after from just one pass with the Meguiars 105 and the burgundy pad

I apolagize for not having much more of the before and after polishing stages after I got started I just got into the zone and didnt remeber to snap any more pictures. I finished off with Meguiars 205 on the yellow meguiars soft buff polishing pad.

The LSP I chose was Autoglym HD wax.

The Autoglym is a fantastic wax but it does have a few characteristics I do not like, I dont like that it is a little bit tougher to wipe off. I have been using Meguiars Ultimate wax a lot and it is far more difficult to wipe off Autoglym than meguiars. But Autoglym offers very good protection and amazing gloss. below is a shot i snapped when i was buffing off the Autoglym.

I moved on to the Interior

some brushing and vacuuming

Better but not done

I picked up the shark pocket steam mop a little while ago to give a try and I must say I am very impressed with the results it gives. It cleans very fast and blasts dirt and grime build up out of tight areas.

the interior was treated with a very thin coat of meguiars natural shine. The leather was treated with Lexol leather conditioner. I was really moving along with the whole thing and didnt manage to snap many pics of the interior process. And now on with the afters.

Looks good, kinda hoped for the old bug when i clicked the thread. Might be wrong but i thought sponges were a no no and could lead to more scratches in the paint. I always use a lambs wool mit and it hasn't let me down. Also is it safe to steam clean leather? Any concerns regarding swelling and such?

Looks great! Autoglym has a higher nuba count than Megs. so it is a little tricker to remove. But as you can see wet paint is what you get!

A member on here SpoiledMan turned me on to the sponges. from some of the posts he posted a while back . I have a 98 BLACK trans am with super soft finicky paint and I never have any tourble with em. They are almost just as soft as my lake country ulti mit. But maybe I may pick up some of the lambs wool mits. I have never had any trouble with the leather sweiling. The unit I have does get pretty hot, but It may not get hot enough for anything like that I guess.

Thank you. Autoglym def gives a wet look. And it doesn't get much attention to much around here anymore. I also love the way it looks on silver for some reason.

Very nice job on the bug. You are not that bad on photography either, capturing defects in yellow is difficult. Looks very nice, I'm sure the lady is pleased.

Why thank you very much! The lady was happy. She is one of the property managers in the building I work in. Thank you again.

That snow shovel bums me out. Winters coming. Why do I live in Canada?

Car looks good BTW. How did you like using the steamer...does it earn a place on the equipment roster?

Whats up Jpostal? thank you. The steamer is very nice. I picked it up at big lots for about 40 dollars. I had been wanting to get a McCulloch steamer mc1275. Then I found this and it has been a pretty handy little unit. Only thing it does run out of water a little sooner than I would like but it is doing its job quite well and I would recommend it to any weekend warrior or anyone looking for a good steamer for a decent price. I am also not looking forward to winter.
