A couple of years ago we had a Garage/Profile Style image gallery for members to post up pictures and images of their cars. Unfortunately, the author of the system packed up and left town. After one of the upgrades of our software, the system broke. :hmph:

Our community needs a new photo posting system. I'd like to get your input on what you'd like to see here at Autopia.

Would you like me to upgrade and fix the gallery we have, add a Garage/Profile Style gallery system (think CarDomain) or both?

Thanks for your input!

I like the gallery we already have other than you can't upload into any more.

Thanks, Scott. I just fixed the problem. Also, I purchased the software upgrade for our existing gallery last night. I will do my best to get the upgrade in by tomorrow so the gallery will work again.

It would be nice if we would be able to host hi res pics, but I realize the bandwidth it takes up cost money.

Craig,

I have increased the pic hosting size to 1200x1024. The reason is was less (1024x768) before is because when I originally configured that was the average display size. These days most of us have a display with 1200 pixel width or better, so an increase makes sense.

I have configured for unlimited space, but a maximum of 20 uploads per day, per member. I don't want to be cheap, but the cost of additional network and backup capacity adds up (disk space is cheap, but network bandwidth isn't).

As it appears that members do want to show large images, and the large images blow out my templates, I will be installing a light box that automatically scales images down in posts.

Correct me if you've already set something up like this, but I'm almost positive that if you set up a paypal for donations to Autopia, then the majority of us would not mind helping out donating for hosting. This site is truly valuable. Just a thought. :think2

Hmm... I'll think on that a bit. :nervous2:

I agree with the suggestion for user donations. In my opinion this site is one of the best on the web. I've been a daily visitor for a year and always find great threads and information. You're doing a great job of keeping the spam off and the topics on track. This is one site I don't mind seeing ads, I love checking out auto products. I'm not a certified pro-detailer, but I've taken it up as a serious interest. I've read through all the articles and regularly try many different products that I discover through this site. I haven't posted one of my details yet, but I plan to this year. Autopia and its members have led me in the right direction for the best care I can provide to the interior and exterior of my car. Now I can't look at a car without noticing paint imperfections. I've even picked up jobs from my neighbors who come over when I start detailing. You can see sunlight reflecting off my car from the end of the street. I would happily make a contribution to help keep this site in A-1 shape.:bow
