Vomit courtesy of McDonalds

Hey everyone, I have a problem, lol. After leaving a party, a friend of mine decided he couldnt keep down two cheeseburgers he had eaten that night while drinking. The target area was primarily a removable mat and the floor carpet behind the drivers seat and below it. The vomit consisted of cheeseburger and cheeseburger alone. Anyways, the morning after I was left on my own to remove his mess, and ever since Ive been trying keep cool about cleaning up someone elses disgusting mess. But, I started out by scooping up debris and then immediatley switched to my Little Green Machine to flush the area with only water. Once I had removed the visible debris I swiched to an aeresol "Prestone" Carpet cleaner with odor neutralizer that I had on a shelft;spray, aggitate and flush with water. I then followed that with a mix of water and a little bissel carpet cleaner. All of these times I was using warm water. Moving on, I left the windows open and left the carpet to dry. The second day it still stunk terribly, so on Christmas Eve, the second day after the vomit incident I went to Target and picked up Kids&Pets. I sprayed it on, let sit and removed with warm to hot water in my little green machine. I have since sprayed Kids&Pets on twice (w/o extracting) and there is still a lingering smell of nastyness. Please, what should I do short of buying a new carpet? This really bugs me because I dont eat fast food, and hadnt had mcd's in over a year or so and I find it revolting when that kind of food hasnt taken a spin through someones digestive tract.

Summary of Process-->

1. Scoop out debris

2. LGCM w/ only warm water

3. Prestone Carpet cleaner-aggitate-remove with warm water in LGCM

4. LGCM w/ water and bissel carpet cleaner

5. Kids&Pets-aggitate-remove w/ warm water

6. 2-3 spraying sessions of Kids&Pets(per odor removing instructions on bottle)

Thankyou for any help!

i think it would be revolting before OR after a spin through the 'ol GI path. :)

you forgot to include the following in your process:

0.5 - make the puker clean up the majority of it

actually...i can't imagine doing something like that in someone else's vehicle and NOT cleaning it up myself. ugh.

It is even worse when you hurl in your own car. I knew I was sick and heading home...almost made it too. I was turning left onto my street when I couldn't hold it in anymore. To make matters worse, I wasn't able to get my door open very far while trying to drive at the same time (stopping would have meant blocking traffic while turning left!) and I managed to get the steering wheel and nearly fill the side pocket of the driver's door, plus all over myself.

Once I cleaned myself up, I started on my car immediately even though I still felt like crap. Let puke sit for any length of time and the smell is hard to remove. Scoop, wetvac, spray, scrub, wetvac, repeat as needed then sprayed down with Frebreeze. I must have done a good job, no trace of smell. :)

I then went inside and slept something like 16 hours straight.

Hmm, so what should I do scott? lol, Ive tried what seems logical. I guess Im going to spray the carpet down a couple more times with kids&pets and then Im stuck with fabreeze and just trying to mask what little smell is left.

For vomit and other "organic" messes, you need something that works on those types of problems specifically. Use enzymes

1) Remove all particulate (cheeseburger) matter

2) Saturate the area with enzymes, allowing to penetrate as deeply as stain did

3) Extract

4) Sniff...get down to the spot and see if you smell it

5) Repeat the saturate and extract process

During this past summer, I detailed the interior of a Town and Country that had a vomit patch at least 3 years old. I say "at least" because the owner bought it used from a car lot at that time. They had not even tried to remove the offending area beyond surface cleaning. Every time the van was warm or the day was damp, the odor sprang out.

Fast forward, the owner had tried more surface cleaning and Febreeze to no avail. She finally asked me if I would take the project and see what I could get done.

I used my above process 4 times through the course of detailing the van. She has never smelled anything beyond clean van since. The carpet is no longer matted and sticky and has zero residue from staining.

Comstock Park. Alright I just sprayed with kids&pets and extracted with my lgcm twice. Im going to let it dry out a little and see if that helped. Im just going to keep at it and repeat repeat repeat like PRB said to do.

FWIW, just recently I've started experimenting with a product I found at Walgreens called Urine Gone. It has enzymes and in a couple of experiments it seems to help neutralize other organic messes pretty well, and in one minor attempt seems to perhaps have a possibility as a shoe deodorizer. Like I said, I'm just trying this out, but it might be worth a look.

The trick is getting the enzymes to the source of odor. If fluid has soaked into the padding, then your enzymes must go there to be effective.

if its just the floor mat, REPLACE IT....no sense in spending a day trying to get it out when they cost like 20 bucks...whats your time worth...

You should have made him eat his vomit the next day.

Hmmm, so I should add folex and zep to the mix? Is zep substantially better than kids&pets? Im using K&P because I searched and found a thread where a mod suggested it. As of now there is no visible stain, so is there reason to use folex? I only have a smell, and I guess I will go get some of this Zep stuff if it is a better bet than the K&P I have been using. Thanks for the help guys, I would be so lost otherwise.

Which Zep product, since they make a whole range. If it's just a cleaner, then don't waste time and money there since you said you have no visible stain, just odor.

Haven't used Folex: does it kill odor or is it just a good cleaner?

Anitbacterial and enzyme cleaners are the way to go in such a case.

Its not courtesy of mcdonalds its courtesy of plane ole drinkin lol

Good to see some other GR people, i thought i was alone.
