volvo question

Nice car! Just looked at one this weekend. Although, I'll probably go with an A4 instead.

Can't comment on the paint though. sorry.

Congrats on your purchase. I have an 09 C30 R design that I got in May and absolutely love!! (I chose it over an A3.) It is Black Sapphire Metallic. After a summer of my careful ONR handwashing, I did not notice serious marring or anything so I'd venture that the paint must not be not ridiculously soft. For my winter detail, I washed and clayed and since it didn't really need correction, I just went over it with optimum finish polish (PC, grey pad). Then I topped it with 3 coats of OS, one of Carnuba Moose Wax, and some OCW after ONR washes.

There is another member here who owns a C30 and is far more skilled than I. He will probably weigh in with his experience and assessment of the paint's realtive hardness.

In the meantime, what color did you chose?

I have a 06 Volvo V50, silver metallic. Very easy to maintain, the paint is not soft nor too hard to correct quite easily. Often I just use Color X and NXT on it and it looks perfect..

Thanks guys!

Test drove one of the c30's, damn peppy car!

I got the "passion red." After owning a black car for the past 4 years I had enough. They had a black one on the lot and it did tempt me though... sexy as hell. I absolutely love mine so far. Handles the crappy Houston streets like a champ, and the seats are some of the most comfortable I've ever been in.

Well that sounds promising so far. glad to hear that the initial correction wont be too difficult.

Polished about 300 Volvos to date this year. I am not real impressed with the 2010s dark colors. The paint does not like course compounds in general. It is hard to correct deep scratches so use foam pads for better results. The paint is very hard. Volvos buff up like new pennies in general. By years end I will have done over 400 Volvos mostly exterior only jobs. The dealers detailer HATES BLACK....so he gives them all to me. A job is a job.

Performed a full polish on my MY08 C30 a few month ago. This was to remove light marring. The hardness was between med to hard level. Used M205 with G110 with low profile green pad on speed 6. Just barely removed all the defects.

Job came out great and very glossy.

Your MY10 S40 should be the same paint used on the C30.

Show us your ride.

I'm with Xtreme-Klean and would love to see a picture. I love that passion red too, on both the s40s and c30s. I love my black, but can fully understand wanting a break from it. (Mine is my first black car. Maybe I'll learn and it will be my last, but most days I'm thrilled with it.) I totally agree too about the seats.

I'm grateful you started this thread as it's been great for me to hear what others' experience is too.
