I am so ticked off. Two years ago we replanted our lawn and landscaped it. I've been following the recommendations of the nursery when it comes to fertilizing, etc. Last year, we had what is called "red thread". It's a fungus that turns your grass a redish/brown color. Not a big deal, bought a herbacide for it, and it disappeared in 3 days. By the time fall came around, the lawn was looking nice and green and near perfect (like you would see in a magazine).
Anyway, with the warmer weather here, most of the 16 inches of snow that we had on the ground had melted, showing the lawn. I was suprised when I had seen appx. 20 holes/tunnels and dirt mounds in the front lawn. The tunnels go under our flower beds, also. What ended as a nice lawn in the now looks like a battle was fought here with grenades being thrown everywhere. My job for today is to contact a local exterminator to get a quote on eliminating the Voles.
The one thing that concerns me the most is that I read Voles carry rabies, can carry lime disease and respiratory diseases if scratched by them. We are very concerned for our dog, so he doesn't get bit or scratched.
I hope it isn't too expensive to get rid of these critters...and hopefully they will go back to our neighbors yard who had them last year, and had the exterminator come and get rid of them from his yard....obviously, they came into our yard.
