Vinyl cleaner

What product are you guys using to clean interior vinyl and plastic (dash, console, door panels)?

Is there a need to buy specific vinyl/plastic cleaners or can diluted APC (Simple Green) be used?

I prefer classic SimpleGreen diluted 10:1; followed with Opt. Protectant.

If you want a vinyl specific cleaner; Lexol Vinylex would be worth looking into.

I have an 01 GMC pickup with a tan vinyl interior. Its been outdoors all its life and has always been wiped down with SG and followed with some type of leather protectant...let sit overnight then buffed off. Still looks new.

I have some 303 to follow up after cleaning, so if 10:1 Simple Green isn't too harsh then that's what I'll use. I just don't want to buy a specific cleaner if it's not necessary. Trying to keep the number of products in my arsenal to a minimum.

I found 303 to be a little too greasy on the dash, actually my wife tried it on her van and we're still trying to tone it down. But, 303 is great on exterior vinyl trim. Lexol Vinylex - I've used that and got good results.

Megs APC 4:1 to clean, PoorBoys Natural Look to protect.

Bada boom!

You folks talking 303 - are you using the cleaner or the protectant? I've found the latter to be a bit too greasy on interior surfaces, but the cleaner, diluted as mentioned above, works great. If you're just lightly dusting, a QD/waterless wash is perfectly good too. However, my favorite...Einszett Cockpit Pro.

Personally, I don't like Simple Green - even diluted to a weak concentration it seems to leave behind a filmy residue. Your mileage may certainly vary.

Poorboy's NL is a great dressing. I prefer it to 303 for the reason mentioned above, although the scent can linger for a while. I generally mist an MF towel with Poorboy's S&W, which makes applying the NL easier and, since you're using less product, the scent isn't nearly as strong.

Never had that happen UNLESS you're cleaning a surface that had a dressing or some kind of buildup on it that the SG was trying to cut through; but didn't quite; and then all you did was smear the old dressing.

I tried PB NL on my vinyl...hated it. Swapped to Opt. Prot.

PB NL goes "tacky" in the sun with me and I couldn't stand the smell really either. YMMV.

How does Opt. Protectant compare to 303?

It is funny that you guys are using Simple Green. I thought my cleaner was good until I compared the two one day on this dirty, mildewy golf cart seat. Simple Green was slightly better. It shut me up.:) Anyway, I would concur with everyone else on Simple Green.

I use a damp mf towel or meg's interior QD for cleaning. For protecting vinyl/dash/trim I have used armor all, meg's natural shine, and OPP.

I like OPP on dark black dashes to light shine but nothing blinding. On one of my cars, the dash is grey, old as ever, and faded like crazy - I actually prefer the shiny/plastic-y look of armor all to OPP on that!

I like Meg's APC+ cut 10:1 for interior cleaning. I follow that with Meg's QID and finally #40 for the dash and upper door surfaces. Basically anything that I want some UV protection on. For strictly vinyl cleaning I have not found a better product than #39.

If you are wanting to keep your product to a minimum I would suggest Woolite cut 10:1 followed by your favorite QID or dressing.

I've found that Klasse VRLP is an outstanding cleaner besides being an excellent protectant/dressing if you like a matte finish. It can clean off a lot of crud without resorting to Mr Clean Magic Eraser-levels of cleaning. Klasse VRLP:

-doesn't outgas so it won't haze your windshield like most dressings

-can provide close to Black Wow type of finish restoration on vinyl but you're not limited to just black vinyl

-lasts too long (a year in my convertible dash, 6 months on my truck tire, serious!)

-doesn't attract dust

Finish Kare Top Cote 108 is my favorite Vinyl/Interior cleaner. Very good at keeping the dust off and excellent finish.
