2009 ML63 AMG.. seems like it was run through 100 car brush car washes...

I washed, clayed, washed, menzerna intensive polish with orange pad/FLEX several passes, menzerna final polish II with white pad one pass....didn't do ipa wipedown since only got like 80% correction /hard *** clear coat I guess..generalized deeper scratches I couldn't get out, followed by NXT 2.0...any comments / suggestions welcome...sorry for iPhone pics

nice work! those german cars have a tendency to have ceramic clears on them, use menz SIP next time... will knock em out no prob!!

Looks a lot better, should be easy to maintain at that level.

If you want closer to 100%, you might need to use a rotary on it.

actually, I'd jump up to 105 and a MF pad, or a surbuf. orange and IP is nowhere near strong enough for mercedes paints. (in most cases)

105/MF

203/tang or white

85rd/black

clean paint

seal paint

+1 on Erics recommendation. I have blasted AMG paint with sip on flex and OJ and it seemed to snicker at it. I bust out the GG, surbuf, and 105. Slow passes, even pressure, slow rotation and it really hits it. Give it a whirl another time. It seems counter intuitive that it would work better than a forced rotation machine but it has for me before.

thanks for the advice.

i ordered some meguiars 105.. i also ordered lake country cyan blue cutting pad... will that be better? does the surbuf pad work on a flex? i hear that the MF pads dont work with flex backing plate....

i bought a big *** jug of ONR, and some grit guards, and will wash with that from now on in my garage, dry with waffle weaves/leaf blower, and use QD while drying..... this car will never see a automatic brush car wash agaiN....

sorry for the noobiness, can u direct me to where i can get surbuf/MF backing plate/disc that will work with flex and wehre to get the pads

thanks, i jsut ordered surbuf pads and meguiars MF pads....

do i need to buy any specific hardware/backing plate for my flex to run the MF pads? it seems the surbufs are velcro on just like the lake country pads. thanks for all your help

I have the Flex 3401 and use the OEM backing plate with the 6.5" Surbufs without any compatibility issues. I have not used Optimum/Meguiar's MF pads so I cannot compare them to the Surbufs but they definitely cut faster than traditional foam pads. It may be my technique (or lack there of) but I can never finish down to "LSP-ready" paint when I use the Surbuf - I have to follow that up with a foam pad to remove the subsequent hazing left from using Surbufs.

thanks for the input, i think i might strip down the AMG again when i have time, and hit it with megs 105 and surbuf pad on my 3401... followed by M205 on a white pad.. .do i need to step down from surbuf to a orange foam pad, or is it ok to just go straight to white pad with a finishing polish to jewel the paint, remove the haze and correct microabrasion from the surbuf?

i also ordered BWFD to seal /replace the NXT 2.0 i have been using...

im starting to like this :tongue2:

DrEvo I think you did well taking the advice to move to semething more agressive. Orange and flex for me have not achieved much on audi and vw clears with PO203S. My (small) experience points also to something more agressive. Good luck there.

As I dont live in the US I do not know exactly where you can find what you need. I usually try ebay and the well known e-shops like autogeek etc.

I'd definitely recommend the MF pads and 105 or D300. These will flatten the paint a little and help knock down some of the orange peel.

You dont need slow passes or pressure with the surbuf. If you apply pressure with the surbuf, the fingers will "J" hook and cause more marring.

1. Weight of machine pressure is fine at speed 5.

2. Don't prime, just 3 dots of M105 and 1 dot of D300 on the pad.

3. With machine off spread product onto paint.

4. Turn on machine and start.

5. As the polish starts to turn clear, spritz with water. This brings the polish back down to the surface. You can polish for a while if you keep spritzing water. It just depends on how deep your defects are.

Here is a video with me polishing with surbuf

While M105/D300 will give you good cut, you wont reduce any orange peel. That will require wetsanding.

how about this M101 magic juice.....that would work no?

Does pimp juice have a faster cut then 105, yes. Will it work for you? Hard to say. I dont expect someone with limited experience using non diminishing abrasive methods to just be able to go out and remove any defects w/ PJ. Do a lot of reading, then decide if its for you.
