Vector Polisher

I've seen this polisher on CMA's website and have read their own review on it, which was for the most part pretty positive. It's an 11 amp variable speed unit with a lot of nice features and a two year warranty. While I don't expect it to compare favorably with the Dewalt 849 or Porter Cable 7428, CMA's price of $99.95 seemed pretty good. Then as I was brousing Autozone I saw the same unit for $49.95. WOW! I never expected to see a decent powerful circular polisher for $50. Does anyone here have any experience with this unit? As someone who has had a PC for several years and has wanted to make the next step to a rotary, this seems like a great deal.

I saw it at Pep Boys too. I guess it would good for someone first starting out using a rotary. I'd have to buy an old hood or fender first before I'd use it.

I bought one and tried it out today using my 7" advanced Lake Country pads and a different backing plate. While it worked ok, I felt the speed fluctuated too much during use. I have not used other premium polishers but I have to feel that they would not strain as much as this one did to keep the speed constant. As noted above, I suppose it would work ok for some applications but I just didn't feel confortable turning up the speed to compensate for its slowing down under load. I took it back for this reason. While it is probably worth what they are asking for it ($50), don't think that it can hold its own with the Makita, Dewalt or Porter Cable.

its a cheapo(no offense to ppl that have them), but thats what you get for buying a cheap brand. Any of the bigger brand name polishers like the ones you mentioned: makita, dewalt, and porter cable make quality products. I have a porter cable 7424 da polisher and it rocks. I also have a makita 9207c old school rotary that my dad gave to me and it works just like it did brand new when it was bought 20 years ago. You get what you pay for.

I also have a PC 7424 and while there is no question that the quality is much better on this machine, I did discover what some have been saying for quite a while: while somewhat more difficult to use, rotaries can do a much better and faster job than orbitals at removing swirls, etching from bird droppings and other paint flaws. I previously tried my PC on some of these and could get anywhere. It took me all of about 5-10 minutes with a rotary (even a cheap one) to remove these imperfections. I'll be getting a good one soon.
