Variations on BF layers

I have 3 layers of BF on my car currently.

I wanted to do some PC work to get out some swirls on certain parts of my car. Now this would strip the BF in those areas.

But, here's the thing. If I put the BF back on to those layers as well as the rest of the car that wasn't PC'ed, would there be a difference in shine and gloss and all that good stuff? This would mean that I have 4 layers in some spots and only 1 layer in others. Would I be able to tell just by looking?. IMO, 3 layers looked better than just one.

Would I have to go with SMR on the trouble spots and all over with the BF polish after? Would this be the best plan of attack?

Removing swirls means you are polishing off the clear coat. Nothing on the surface of your car is going to survive that. Not Blackfire or Klasse or Zaino or anything. Polishing will remove it all.

If the you have noticed an improvement in shine because of your 3 layers of BF then you can expect a diminishment of shine in the area you polish it off of. If nothing else you will notice that the water doesn't bead in that area. If I have to polish an area then I usually polish the whole panel and replace the product on it. Don't put any more layers on the rest of the car till you have that panel built back up to three layers and you would be fine.

If you can get some DACP then I would use that instead of SMR. It will actually remove your swirls instead of filling them. You don't want them coming back and having to polish out that panel over again. DACP is easy to use and more effective on swirls than SMR. That's just my suggestion.

Thanks for the reply,

I've never used DACP before. Could I pick that up at my local NAPA auto parts store?...Is it safe to use like the SMR? Any differences in how it should be applied?

What did DACP stand for again and who makes it?...

Sorry if I'm asking dumb questions, but I really don't know. :nixweiss

Its a Meguiar's product. Dual Action Cleaning Product is the actual name I think. I've got it in a squirt bottle with DACP written on it so I forget sometimes. :p It is an awesome product though. Its not hard to use and its safe just like SMR is. The best part is that it will actually remove your swirls. I've got no use for SMR after finding DACP.

It may or may not be available at your local autoparts stores. I get mine from an automotive paint supply store that is a Meguiar's retailer. You could probably ask Meguiar's who that would be in your area. I'm sure there are a few bottles of it somewhere in town that you can find. Use the yellow pages and let your fingers do the walking. ;)

I really want to try the DACP now and I've tried the meguiar's site and can't find a dealer who carries it in NY.

I want to do it this weekend and don't have time to go for it online. Does anyone in NY know where I can find this DACP?

Thanks in advance! :up

Look in the yellow pages for Meguiar's maybe. Call around to the automotive paint supply shops and see if they carry it. That is going to be where you will find it. You'll have to make some calls though.
