Vac HP

How much HP in a Vac do you think one realy needs. I mean is it worth it to buy a 6.5 HP when a 4 HP is all you need?

It's not an important spec. More for marketing than anything else (and you thought marketing hype only existed with car wax....).



Look for a spec denoting inches of water lift. That is a valid comparison of suction. Ultgar did an interesting comparo of some shop vacs. Scroll all the way to the bottom to read his comments about how to compare vacs.

Im looking at the Shop-Vac's at Lowes to replace my 1.6 HP one

I have a craftsman 12 gallon, 5hp vac and have been very please with it. I really don't know how much more suction power I could ask for--I inadvertanyly sucked up two MF towels into the vac when cleaning the car (with 2 1/2" hose). I just bought the 1 1/4 inch hose for it to clean the car (littel easier to use for cars) and will see how this works.



I got the vac on sale for $60 this past summer and got the car cleaning attachments included.
