Using SG

I am unhappy with Zaino and am going to start using SG. I am going to prep the car with SSR2.5 again and apply SG. Do I need to do AIO prior to the SG? Once SG is on there, how often does everyone apply a topper?

First off, you should follow behind SSR2.5 with SSR1 to add a lot more depth and richness to the paint. It will smooth things out very nicely.

Second, yes, you need to use AIO prior to SG. You can apply as many layers of SG as your heart desires, just as long as they are 24 hours apart. Also, I can't stress this enough, be sure to use as little SG as possible. If you use too much, it will be a bear to get off.

Listen to Dookie! Aio is essential to detailing. My little thing is when applying SG is to leave it on for 24 hrs before removing it. In the summer you can leave it on for 12 hrs with low humidity or not raining. It will allow it to cure, ending with pure flat application = shinner and longevity for SG. I have 3 coats of SG before P21S. Make sure not to use waxes with cleaner, because it will just stripe the aio and sg.

Oh, use acrylic spritz to allow equal distribution of sg. Just make a thin radius strip along pad.

Paultso, AIO is a WOWO product, SG must dry before removing it. Curing is after the dry layer is removed. Don't let the car get wet within 12h after you have removed the SG.

I'm a detailing rookie, but I thought I'd jump in on this thread with a question or two. Yesterday I washed my car and applied AIO with my PC and an orange pad, wiping it off with a MF. Today I'm going to apply SG. My original plan of attack was WOWO with a MF, but it looks like that may not be best. Maybe some advice is in order.

Firstly, I have no foam applicators (unless you count my black and white pads for the PC). Should I just use a MF to apply the SG, or should I use the PC and a foam pad? Should I moisten said MF or so anything other than using a very small amount of SG?

Secondly, I live in Mississippi, where it is hot and humid right now. The car is garaged. How long should I let the SG set before wiping it off?

You can use SG as a WOWO product, but I have found that best results is give it time to dry. The longer time you give it to dry, the better your results will be. This is what I have found with my own personal experience. Apply it to your car's paint with a damp applicator. Apply as thin as possible. Allow time to dry (at least an hour) and than remove with a microfiber cloth. If you find some areas that give you trouble, use some QD and it should come off easily.

Plenty of people use W-O-W-O with SG, but I'm not one of them ;) I too like to let it set up as long as possible, often overnight. I also get at least 4 layers on before topping, well, actually I don't top any more as I want to keep adding SG from time to time.

No way to exaggerate how thinly you should apply it. Yesterday I absolutely could *not* see it on the roof of the MPV under fluorescent lighting (could see it under incandescent/tungsten if I really tried). I use a fraction of an ounce for the whole minivan.

When I had trouble getting it off (I had to intentionally apply too much to see what all the fuss was about :D ) I just fogged the surface with my breath (maybe tough if hot and humid) and the little bit of moisture took care of things. I liked how it worked so well that I now "fog" whenever I buff off SG.

GroovinPickle- If your garage is dust-free I'd let it set up overnight and wipe it off tomorrow. I could never get a thin enough application with the PC, but note that I'm sorta extreme about only using as much as is needed. I do *not* moisten the SG applicator, only thing on it is SG, but as Audipower posted, some like to use the matching QD.
