Using Paypal

Hi, guys. Does anyone have any experience using Paypal as a vehicle to sell goods? I am currently negotiating with a fellow Autopia member who lives outside the U.S. He wants to use the purchase Paypal option to buy the tub of wax and is willing to pay extra to cover the Paypal charges. Are there any disadvantages or vulnerabilities that I need to be concerned about. The wax, by the way, is to be sent to a forwarding warehouse here in the U.S., which I presume will then send the package on to the buyer.

Paypal isn't exactly safe for transactions. Unless this warehouse is listed as the buyers "verified/confirmed" paypal address, you will not be covered by paypal if he disputes the charge. The only way you are covered via paypal is if you have a tracking # that shows delivery to the buyer's confirmed address. You could have him western union the money, that is pretty safe from the receiver's side.

I called Paypal and the warehouse is listed as an alternative address for the buyer, so apparently I am covered by the Paypal agreement. I will be sure to get a tracking number and a signed receipt. Here's hoping all is on the up-and-up.

Be sure when you are shipping to request signature confirmation for the buck or two extra. Even UPS does not always get signature. Countless times stuff gets "Left at the Door" and the customer says they never got it.

I have used it exclusively for about three years for my online business and never had a problem. USPS has "lost" a few packages, but it's around 1% and if I ship anything of real value, I get the insurance.
