Used Cyclo again today, a lot happier with it

As some of you know, I recently purchased a Cyclo and wasn't all that happy with it. My first attempt was using it for some pretty heavy compounding work with some 3M RC, and I was really having some problems. It wasn't producing the finish I normally get with the PC and the pads were caking almost immediately. I was blaming the poor experience on the pads, and have been waiting for some new Sonus 4" pads to come in before I tried to use the machine again.

Well, the Sonus pads still aren't in and I got tired of waiting so I decided to try it again, except this time using it for some moderate polishing work on my mom's new BMW (you can see it here: http://autopia.org/forums/showthread.php?s=&postid=477388#post477388).

My first pass on the car was with the PC and some 3M RC. After that, I made a full pass with the PC and 1Z PP. The sides of the car looked great, but the hood and trunk still had some light marring that just didn't want to come out, so that's when I decided to try out the Cyclo. I used the Cyclo brand green pads and some 1Z PP and just took my time and let the machine do all the work. To my surprise, it took the marring right out. The pads weren't even close to caking up and the finish was amazing.

I guess the problem I was having before was from the 3M RC just being so thick that it caked the pads too quickly, and wasn't the fault of the machine or pads at all, because when I moved to a thinner product everything worked great.

All in all, I am beginning to really like the Cyclo. It *is* a great machine, but I am thinking that it just won't work with certain products like 3M PI II RC or AIO. But that's what I have a PC and rotary for, right? :xyxthumbs

JDookie- I always like hearing about a situation improving :xyxthumbs The 1Z PP certainly is more easily adapted to the Cyclo/green pads; it's a good combo. And IMO you're right about no single machine being the best for every application.

Just as some of us have issues with products that others just *love*, IMO there are gonna be some differing opinions as to how some products work with the Cyclo. For instance, I started out using fairly thick products when I first got my Cyclo, so what seems normal to me might be very different from somebody else's views.

As you get more accustomed to the Cyclo, you might revisit the 3M RC. The PI-III RC (05933) is still my go-to "aggressive" product for the Cyclo, using the green pads. FWIW I don't use much product and I don't try to do really "serious" correction with it, at least with the green pads.

Thanks for the update Jason!! :up I am sooooo intrigued by this machine. If I bought one it would be for the sole purpose of polishing since that process with a PC can be quite time consuming. I predominantly use the Meg's 80 series products for paint correction...I wonder if the Cyclo pads have a problem with those compounds?? Anything that can speed polishing up without having to break out the Makita is a plus for me.

Rob from WCD says he is going to have some great prices on the Cyclo in March so I might have to take the plung then.
