【URGENT】 Meguiar's "Ultimate" Products?

Hi, there is a sale going on for Meguiar's Ultimate Products ending soon and I'm wondering how the new products perform:



1. Meguiar's Ultimate Compound

2. Meguiar's Ultimate Polish

3. Meguiar's Ultimate Wax (Liquid)



I know the NXT 2.0 was like their best wax how does the Ultimate wax compare in terms of shine, water beading/sheeting and durability?



How does the Ultimate Polish compare with Autoglym Super Resin Polish in terms of prep-ing the surface and filling some scratches?



Also, is that compound stuff good? I've never used any compound before so I got nothing to compare it to...



Autoglym is on sale too so I want to just get some idea on the new Ultimate stuff and whether I should stick to AG SRP for polish, and also whether the wax and compound are good products. Sale's ending soon!

Live in Canada do we? I've only been reading the difference between NXT and ultimate wax and the opinions seem mixed. They will go on sale again once or twice before the end of the summer in case you're worried!
 
But I need some products now as I'm out of polish and almost out of wax :(



I just read a bunch on their forums too and it seems "ultimate" wax is different technology (much like the ultimate quick wax) and lasts longer than NXT 2.0 as well as applies very thinly... We don't have paste unfortunately (I prefer paste over liquid :()

Are you applying the polish by hand or machine? It might help others provide better input, and also check out the meguiar's forum, I'm sure you will find extensive info on these products. I was about to purchase autoglym SRP at one point, it contains no abrasives per autoglym rep, so it leads me to think it must be filler heavy. A cleaner/glaze, so it would probably wash off sooner than if you are working with megs ultimate polish, which I looked up is based on m205 and will have abrasives. One of the things that deterred me from SRP was there was no extra gloss protection available from ctire. I like to keep the same product line going.



No paste?! Yikes, it might come later perhaps. I saw ctire carry paste for nxt but it would not always be there and liquid would. I prefer paste more also, it helps me spread the product further and thinner. Liquid is much more easy to apply for the normal folk though, I recommended NXT to a friend and I asked him to pick up the paste (since I apply it for him most of the time anyways I got the final say :lol), but he let his brother and parents use it. They burned through it in 3 months, I came back to see the bottom of the tin visible and they had only used it four times.

So the Ultimate polish would be better then! It's cheaper too... Yeah I prefer paste wax because liquid is too easy to waste and you can only squeeze on the applicator so it's all gathered up into one big blob of wax whereas paste it's so easy to spread and easier to apply thin. I only work by hand right now (just a weekend warrior).



About your friend...talk about waste, haha.
 
Also, anyone know the difference between Ultimate Quik Wax and Ultimate Quik Detailer? I mean, difference in actual performance... From reading all I've really learned is that they both use the same Hydrophobic Polymer technology, and they both can be used after a LSP to get add-on shine/durability.... I've seen youtube videos of both doing the same sheeting, etc. Then, what the hell is the difference....?
 
From what I'm gathering, NXT 2.0 may soon be discontinued so the choice between the two might be a moot point in the near future. On another note, I do like their Ultimate Compound.

Does it work well?



I decided to get the AG SRP as it's more of an AIO, which means I didn't get the UC because I assumed the cleaners in the AIO would just strip off the UC. I got the UQD rather than the UQW... since I'm already applying a layer of wax so just a detailer is enough (also used it for clay lubricant, as well it comes in a bigger bottle than the UQW). And this store messed up the price so I got Mothers Step-3 Carnauba Liquid for only $9 .. haha!

Good choice, truth be told, I have a hard time buying Meguiar's since the pricing difference is so big compared to the states. I've also managed to find local sources for some non-otc products. I can't believe ctire bumped up the price of gold class from $14 to $20 randomly. At $14 it was already quite expensive compared to turtle wax, which is what I see people always pick up whenever I'm there.



I would also love to get my hand on some of their professional line. I'm assuming you are topping srp with the mothers? SRP may leave protection but it isn't very strong from what I have read.

....yes, I tend to think it works well but if I can be honest for a minute without sounding condescending, I would really suggest taking a couple of steps back and hold off on purchasing anything further until you have a good understanding of what you want/need. I would just hate to see you waste money on something you later realize you can't use or won't work in your situation.



In a nutshell, UC (Ultimate Compound) is an abrasive "compound" meant to help remove blemishes/scratches from your finish. There is nothing UC would leave behind that you would necessarily want left on the finish other than polishing oils (which most folks prefer to remove with a wipe down). You would need to follow it up with a finishing polish and/or a wax or sealant of your choice. ....or an AIO if you want to go that route.



The following flow chart from Autogeek does a pretty good job of flowing out the process and shows how some of your typical classifications of products might fit:

Yeah I used the Mothers on top of the SRP. The paint is very glossy now despite it's silver. I usually shop at eshine.ca, or wisdomdetail.ca for local in GTA. You can check them out if you don't already know them.



Gold class is pure garbage. It literally lasted one month for me and I park in garage....

Thanks, yeah I know what compound does that's why I asked because I have a black car that need some serious paint correction in two areas. However, I've always assumed that even though it's a "compound", it'd be heavy on fillers and stuff so a cleaner would remove it after. Guess not!

....ah, I see.



I was actually a little surprised by UC. Having used M105 and M205 a limited amount of times, I didn't know what to expect from this product. It was actually very easy to use via DA (similar to M205) and had that extra bite I was looking for. I like M105 but it is not as easy to use as M205 (for me) and its more aggressive than what I typically need. UC filled that gap between the two in my case.



When I first used it with my DA, I found it corrected faster than M205 and was expecting visible micro-marring. However, I was pretty amazed at how well it finished. ....it still required a follow up with a finishing polish IMO, but still impressive. However, while also effective by hand, I did discover that it will leave noticeable marring (at least to my eye). I would suggest following up with Swirl-X or Ultimate Polish if your looking for an OTC solution. ....apparently, UP has quite a bit more polishing oils than Swirl-X that can act as concealers so bear that in mind.

I don't think that gold class is garbage. It is supposed to be great looking on black paint. I have yet to see a double blind study on wax so all the reviews that I have seen on wax have been very subjective. Except for one blind study where Glod Class came out on top compared to some very expensive waxes. By the way I have been to a museam where they wax cars worth $5,000,000 with Meguiars #26 which is the profesional form of Gold class. If it is only lasting a month and you keep the car in the garage you are probably wahsing it off with your car wash routine. Secondly UQW has a lot more protective ingredients than the UQD. The UQW will last a lot longer. When I use UQW once a month as a booster my wax jobs will last six months.

I decided to buy the AG SRP again. It's worked well for me but only complaint is the smell. I wanted to try the UP but I was afraid to do so, haha. I might as well wait til I have the money for a GG6 then! I hate applying by hand..especially on the doors, it's so tiring.

I guess it's because I didn't know how to prep the paint before. But CT did randomly boost the price of it by $5 which is not a very nice thing.
 
When I said "Me too! It smells......English" I was replying to your comment "And here I simply *love* the smell of SRP". It seems to be a fragrance used in a lot of AG products. Several smell the same as SRP. I love it too!



Funny, I *also* really like the smell of 1Z stuff. Both AG and 1Z smell like a *proper* commercial-grade quality product. They smell *professional*.
