Hi Forum,

I have polished cars with a PC 7424 for a few years now. On this site I read about paint correction, techniques, chemicals and pads. I returned to the garage and attempted to get more aggressive with my PC 7424. The PC just didn't cut it (sorry for the pun). I then decided to buy the Flex DA. I guess the rotary would have been fine, even though the rotary would take some skill development it looks fairly straightforward. I bought a DA of instead of a rotary because of my familiarity with a DA, cannot burn paint (well, I suppose you could stand on a DA and burn), Flex corrects and finally a rotary flings and is messy.

I buffed a couple of hoods today.

1) Cleaned the paint (roadster and classic - nice) very light wash

2) Polished with 3M machine polish

3) Glazed with 3M glaze

4) Waxed with Pinnacle Souveran

I smeared the lotions over the car using speed 3.

Bumped the speed to 5 -6. The Flex soft start feature is really nice and the speed hold button cannot be missed.

When the device is up to speed you soon realize that basically you are changing the surface of the clear coat or paint. This is akin to a DA wood sander. Once you visualize that concept the urge to rapidly push the machine subsides soon you find yourself slowly guiding the beast over fenders and hood. As the polish/wax appears to dry - you're done. The buffing is the best part. So easy.

I like using a glaze, a nice touch and really sets the stage for the wax.

I am not a snob. But I did want to try some high-end wax. I was really skeptical. I bought a can of Pinnacle and can honestly say - Man what difference. Sure there are hundreds of pros and cons. Who cares, I like it. Of course I use the 3M liquid wax and sure the NXT bottle is there as well, maybe just for the fragrance.

The point made spend time on the preparation. But you will not see a finer finish after using a machine that can correct paint. Even when lightly using in maintenance mode, the reflection and depth is stunning.

Thanks guys for all the great posts.

I sure hope you get many pleasant and productive hours out of your flex FAQ. I find the variable trigger a treat as well (even if it not exclusive to flexes).

Welcome to the forum!

PS. Is the VSR a newer version/special edition of the VRG?
