Unique Detail Rigs

I've been looking lately for a new vehicle for my business to transform into a detail rig. I want something that looks unique and catches the eye while advertising my business, being economical to drive daily, and have lots of storage with easy access.

Now, I've already considered what other detailers use that I have seen on the forums... Honda Element, Mazda3, VW Rabbit... as well as some other creative ideas... Chevy HHR panel van, a customized Toyota Prius, Mini Clubman...

I want to see what you would turn into an eye-catching unique detail rig.

You don't have to follow these criteria, just be creative.

Here is my current infatuation:

VW Type 147 "Fridolin"

you know what, I thought about buying an older VW bus witha strong motor, giving it a new paint job and advertising with that.

and also an older mustang like a 66-67 with a candy paint job

I've also been pondering what would be a really unique detailing rigg and the only real conclusions I've come up with are a nice EscaladeESV or something like a chevy SSR or possibly an old Woody wagon or something that's very "hot rod" esq with rebuilt guts and a bed.

I'd love to have a good show car/truck/detail rigg.

man i so wanted an old icecream truck for my mobile business!! i found one close and they wanted 8K for it. guess with all the tv show builds they do, who ever has one knows they are worth some money to some one. i used to see them in driveways with for sale signs saying 500 bucks, 800 bucks. now i havent found one cheap in awhile. unless i'm not looking in the right place.

If I had to go mobile (and I had the money), I would probably look at the Toyota FJ cruiser. In their blue color, I think it is really eye catching (albeit ugly). Probably not economical to drive around in, however.

Out of your choices, I like the HHR panel van best. Eye catching, as well as pretty professional looking (IMO).

I'd definitely go for a HHR panel. There was one at the tampa auto show and that thing has so much storage its crazy, and it looks different than a regular HHR so it will catch your eye. I've seen a white one driving around here and the guy has his logo taking up the whole side of the car so it's hard to miss.

WOW you want to do a Fridolin? You know how much it would cost you to get one in nice shape? If you find one you will probably have to drop a LOT of money to get it where you want it. Those things are hella rare around here. I love them though, a friend of mine had one and sold it cause the parts were too much. The window was cracked(the windshield) and he said screw it!

I have a Karmann Ghia(69) I had thought about using that BUT there is no room for water or a generator so that was quickly thrown out. hahaha.

A guy I know had a 15 passenger van bagged and BD that was killer, I had thought about doing that but that would only appeal to the car show types and a few others. I couldn't pull up to a house with a layed out van on some wheels to do a Ferrari, I would probably be told to leave. lol

Yeah, I know the Fridolin's are spendy and rare (found one that has been restored for over $25k) but it's more just day dreaming than reality. I keep running it through my head on how difficult it would be to build in a pressure washer and run the motor with a large power inverter so the engine is basically my generator but man would that be cool.

I really am starting to like the HHR panel van the more that I look at it.

I've not seen another Sprinter being used as a detailing rig in Atlanta yet. Hey, and it's realistic. :D

Scion xB or with gas prices maybe a vespa and trailer.

i have an xb. unless you take the rear seats out, i see no way of getting a water tank, generator and PW in one. i need to buy a truck or van soon so i can go mobile

I use a Blue FJ Cruiser for my mobile detailing. Honestly though, it is terrible for the job. It was my wifes car prior to starting the business and I threw a sign on it and made it the company car....LOL.

I can barely fit a Shopvac, buckets, step ladder, powerwasher and the 2 containers for products and towels. That's with the back seat down. If I ever get a water tank I am going to have to go with the extrerior trailer hitch model. I have changed my setup a little since I have been using ONR for most everything. No more powerwasher and a 15 gallon rubbermaid container to hold water. Oh yeah, and 17mpg for everyday driving. I am looking into an Xb for nothing but the business. They have more room than the FJ without the seats and gets almost double the MPG.

Also, what does everyone think about a 72 chevy pickup? I have been eying one for a while now but it will take $$$ to get it looking good enough to run a detailing business out of. Looking at a 72 blazer as well. That is what I really want but the $$$ would be the same for the paint and they want a lot more for it.

i currently use a chevy astro van, which for me is the perfect size for all my gear and a 90 gallon tank. i am thinking about getting a vw van classic to be on point with my company name beach cities auto detail. the sprinter vans are cool, but diesel prices arent. i recently saw a taxi company in newport that had imported the british style taxi cabs, and it got me thinking.
