Underbody Rust treatments

My girlfriend just got a new, well used car, a 2006 Mazdaspeed 6, Black Cherry Mica, Overall the car is good condition, it just needs a good detail however, I do have a concern with it. Its was an Ohio car and it has definitely seen some salty winter roads. the under-body has rust on it nothing to extreme I just want to stop it in it tracks what are some good product(s) you have used to cure the car cancer?

Thanks again guy and gals

Take it to Ziebart. Have had all my cars rust proofed. Haven't seen a lick of rust yet.

Not sure if you can buy Bilt Hamber rust products but here in the UK they have gained a very good reputation. Whatever products you do choose, I would suggest not delaying, rust does not sleep

It's too late to have a rust inhibitor applied that would be warrantied.

If you chose to do it right, would need a special application gun to apply the inhibitor.

Normal "undercoat" will not help for long, when applied over rust scale.

What you can do is to clean off as much of the "scale" as you can.

Then apply ASTM-117B approved products to the area.(this is the standards that the car companies accept as well as I-Car)

Use a rust inibitor product first, this is a "wax based" tan in color material.

It seals the metal from moisture and coats what is left of the scale.

Then, apply an "undercoat" that contains a percentage of the rust inhibitor.

Rubbrized products will peel off, so can't recommend them, nor can I recommend the use of most undercoats which is little more than solvent reduced asphalt.

Go to ValuGard.net and look at the training video section to see "gun applications", however they do sell the two products in aerosols.

These are the products that are also available under the Ford Motorcraft and Chyrsler MoPar brands, as ValuGard produces them for many car companies.

Mazda uses the ValuGard product for some warranty repairs and often has them in their dealership Technical Service Bulletins.
