Auto Detail & Restoration
Ultra VW Magazine July 2011

Are there any subscribers here or anyone know of a retail chain that carries it? A car I did is featured and I'm trying to get copies locally.
It's published in the UK. It's the July 2011 issue. The Donut Bus is the vehicle. Any help obtaining copies would be appreciated. I will cover costs.
PM me if you find it at your stand. Thinking of ordering from the UK. I don't yet know the cost. I need multiple issues for myself and the owner.

Thanks

I'll check a couple of the smaller book stores here in town that carry a lot of UK publications and see if I can come up with some. How many copies are you looking for?

I'm looking for 5 I want to frame the article and it is also pictured on the cover. They have a few pics on their website of the issue.
I have several magazine features on my wall but this was the most intense.
Thanks for any help.

I found Ultra VW at a local bookstore, but they appear to be a month behind on what issue they keep on the shelves. The covers also have a UPC sticker on them and I'm not sure how well they'd come off clean.

All of these except 1 are befores.

After the process the Dayton Concours were so wowed by the transformation it was invited you can see the reflection of the yellow car next to it. All the paint is original in and out. Chips in the body were carefully filled and sanded after a spot polish and color scan to match. The upper box and screens were resprayed due to damage and flacking paint with that matching color.

I have lost the original afters they are posted here but would not copy. EDIT: SLD was able to post the after pics in a following post. I left the link in case anyone wanted to read more.

I feel fortunate to have been chosen to save this piece of history. The original hand lettering was a challenge and of much concern of the owner to save.

I did their camper bus, cab-over, and the 1979 930 turbo. They are great people with unique cars.

I think that would fall into the resto detail category. Unless someone has gone a project like that, they have little idea how much time and work it takes to achieve results like that. Especially magazine coverage. Congrads on landing that.

Totally agreed, that's a really cool project! It's not easy to restore a vehicle and preserve that much originality, especially bringing it to that high of a level.

Just to save folks having to click to another site here are John's after pics:

Charlie you are the man! Every time I tried I just received a 1/4inch line. Thank you very much.
Mrclean yes it was a resto-detail. The owners insisted and I received a full name mention and paragraph.

Thats really good of them to make sure you got recognition. The van looks very solid inside and out. Im going to show this to my dad next time I see him. He will really appreciate this one.

Thanks. The history is interesting. There was a franchise "Rolling Donuts" in 1960 around 10 of these were made. The color is specific to those 10 or so. So far there is 1 other known that is restored. This bus was ordered brand new and served the Dayton area till 1963. When the owner found his employee was skimming it was parked in the same place in the first picture since. All the equipment, everything was in the vehicle but was unfortunately separated at auction. When
it surfaced there was a huge buzz within the internet VW groups. It truly had not been touched all this time. After mechanicals were checked I was called to look at it. It had every piece of paperwork since new. Even the grease splatter from it's last day on the job.(that was fun)
