For some reason we have had a run on ultra picky people!!! This guy walks in and get's on his hands and knees looking under the rocker panels of his Lexus SC. I said, was that worth getting dirty to see the panels are clean. This clients Lexus was spidermans dream when he brought it in and now he is crawling under the car to see if his rocker panels have been clean . You should of seen the faces of my crew LOL..............

What are some of your stories?

did he have anything negative to say?.

No he didn’t. Not even anything positive about all the swirl marks and interior filth we eliminate. I’m not sure but it may be the nature of the beast!!!

I gave my friends aunt a deal on her crv...$130 for a full detail, a $70 discount - she recieved it, had more complaining to do than anything else...4 days after the detail she noticed something "greasy" on the interior door panel...after inspecting it, I seen fingerprints and smudges...maybe its because she touches it? and then she complains about her trim not staying extremely black, after 3 days of rain and faded trim..what is she expecting? She wants me to fix it this weekend, my friend keeps calling me about it...I will fix it, but only with another charge...Im not here to keep maintaining my detail because of her lack of knowledge of what a detail entails to...I will never detail a vehicle for her again

I just did a black Explorer with dog scratches all over including the hood and pot seeds everywhere (6 hours on Sunday). It belongs to my friends girl. After she offered to pay $80 she didn't pay or even say thanks. I said @#$% $%#% ^$#$%^ $^%^$#%

She may have thought to give you those seeds as payment LOL...........

Josh this may help!!! When clients come to pick the car up I always say, “ please inspect the vehicle or for ever hold your peace with a smile.

I had a customer pick up his car with a friend. The looked over the car for about 35 minutes. He ran his finger down the door jams, in the inside door handle (arm rest) grab holes. They looked the paint over for a good part of that time. In the ene they were happy. :bigups But that took up 35 minuts of my time for my next detail.

I've had some picky customers when I use to detail.

In the end you may get annoyed with them but I feel they make you a better detailer. You know people are looking at certain things and you wont' miss them again.

Not to pick on you, but comments like that would send me down the road to never come back and I would mention it to others in my travels. If you have nothing to hide (and you didn't), you should encourage your clients to fully inspect it to their satisfaction. Maybe he had a previous detail done that took shortcuts. Satisfied customers are your best advertising after all.

This has some truth in it, as your chances of having the Lexus owner becoming a repeat customer just went down 50% by potentially embarrassing him with your remark.

As you even said, "it may be the nature of the beast!!!" Let your customers leave with dignity, please don't show your "Crew" who's boss in front of the customer. :secret

Quote by theveed:

"Funny, our most picky customers usually turns out to be the most loyal and friendly ones down the road.."

Also true.

No offence taken. LOL.............. This guy was a “brother of one my crew members. Long story short, my crew member didn’t want me too detail his brothers car but I gave in. You see my crew member is embarrassed about his brothers (malcontent) disease. The point of MY post was about picky people, not customer service !!!

Soarer V; I let my crew member read your post and he smiled and ask if we could send him to you next time??? LOL............

We also take our clients out to inspect their vehicles after we service them and show them what we did. We fully encourage them to make sure that they are satisfied with the job before they leave and even if after they get home they find something please call and we will take care of it. Rarely if ever have we had anyone call to complain. Now that being said there are some people that really are just picky jerks that will look for something to complain about no matter how insignificant. Sometimes they are just having a bad day ro are just a jerk to begin with. My best customer used to nitpick the hell out of his BMW and Vette every time we cleaned them but as time passed and he began to trust us he never says anything but thanks anymore.

I had a client who complained of a foul odor inside of her Ford Taurus wagon 3 days after I detailed it. I asked her to bring it by so I could take a "look and smell"..

She was correct... it did reek. I also found a empty baby bottle under the seat that had a loose cap and nipple.

She had a 9 month old child who apparently dropped a bottle of what appeared to be milk or a formula mix on the floor, which rolled under the passenger's side seat, and with the car closed up in the hot summer sun....

I took care of the problem and cleaned the area, vacuumed the mess of Cheerios that had been dropped and crushed in thwe rear passenger seat footwell then deodorized it at no charge to her...

Not even a thank you...

Whern I sent out my postcards announcing I was reopening for the season... I didn't send her one.

This happened to a used car dealer friend of mine, it was in the local newspaper.

Preface:

This used car dealer friend drops off about 20 cars per week to get detailed at the local detail shop. This car dealer is a real AH, no one I know likes him. I have to agree, he is annoying. He always beats the detailer up for price, tells him he does a crap job on every car and was paying him only $60 per car. (His rotten personality in effect)

Action:

The car rotten dealer goes to pick up a car one night and notices a scuff in the car door that he wanted removed. He told the detail guy to bend over and look closer; the scuff was there and very noticeable. When the detailer bent over to look at the scuff, the car dealer yanked the door open hard, hitting the detail guy in the face. The rotten car dealer said, "your work sucks, I’m not coming back". The detail guy left bleeding on the street.

Here is where it gets good:

The detailer calls the police and gets the rotten car dealer arrested for assault. The detailer then proceeds to physically damage the 15 or so cars the rotten car dealer had at his shop. The car dealer goes to court and gets no punishment because he said he slipped on tire dressing on the ground and the door hit the detailer by accident, he in turn sues the detail shop owner for the damages to the 15+ cars and wins big. The detail shop closed because the owners insurance would not cover self inflicted vandalism and had to attempt to pay out of his thin pocket.

Moral of the story:

The customer is always right, be careful who you choose as customers....
