Ultima PGP applicator question...

Has anyone tried using a different applicator with UPGP? The big blue microfiber applicator that came with my Ultima sampler kit is very nice, but I had a hard time telling if I was getting any UPGP on the paint. I actually got a little too much in a couple of places.

I've used both the Zaino applicator pads and Vroom microfiber pads with Zaino Clear Seal, and they worked really good.

I think UPGP looks better than Z-Cs,but the CS is far easier to use IMO. I've used ZCS a few times now and I got the hang of it pretty quick. I like how you spray CS directly on the car and then spread it around. That seems to work better than spraying on the pad IMO. I got to where I was spraying the pad with UPGP for every panel, and I was sure I was wasting product. When I got done, I hadn't used much at all though.

I gotta say I'm impressed so far! I clayed my wife's car, then I buffed with Ultima Paint Prep Plus using a PC and an orange pad. The UPPP was very easy to use, the left the paint looking very nice, and it didn't dust at all. I did one coat of UPGP, and I plan to do two more later today. I might even top it all of with some Z8!!! My wife's white GTP looks stunning so far.

Also, has anyone used Zaino PC with UPGP?

I like Z-CS and UPGP,but I have to give the UPGP the nod in the looks department. My red Formula with ZCS on it sure did look good out in the sun this afternoon and under the streetlights last night though!

UPGP is a great LSP. By far the easiest I've ever used and looks fantastic.

I used it 3 times on a customers car (his bottle) and found the big MF applicator supplied the best IMO. I know what you mean about not knowing if you've covered the surface, though. :grinno: You just have to have faith that one spray will be enough to cover a large panel or more.

If you view the panel from different angles you'll be able to see the slightly oily appearance left behind by UPGP. The large fluffy MF applicator covers a larger area and prevents product buildup. I think if you give it a chance you'll get use to it and learn to love it. Once you get use to it you'll be able to do a small car in 5 mins with it! ;)

Oh, btw. I would wait a day between coats. This will allow each layer to crosslink properly.

I also found that when I did 3 layers over 3 days, it left an oily film I couldn't completely remove. The owner reported that it went away after two washes and the appearance improved considerably. He loves it.

Be sure to wait at least 12 hours between coats. Buff the totally cured last coat by hand with a big thick MF or an ultrasoft no cut pad.

I had the same reservations initially, and also the facr that it is such a big 'brick' to get into some of the small areas on th car. I have tried a couple of other applicators but have now come back to the MF brick again, and have found it ideal. I do have a new MF pad from Autopia that looks and feels the same but is much smaller, and will try that on my next outing as it looks easier to get into some areas.

I have not found an easier product to use, and had no streaking issues on any colours. When I saw one day how much as in fact put down on the panels, when the sun shone at it at just the right angle to highlight the film of product, I stopped worrying and carried on as thin as possible. I always use 2/3 layers though for the extra look that comes from it and to ensure 100% coverage....

Thanks guys. I might just do two coats because it will be like 10 tonight before I can do another coat, and I will be busy tomorrow. I don't want to be outside under the streetlight at 10 pm putting another coat on.

I use an applicator that is very similar to the Blue Perl that is sold in the Autopia store and it works better *for me* than the supplied app. PGP also works just dandy after ZPC and just might be easier than when used with UPPP.

I like the Ultima Applicator because it really cuts down on application time. As it is, applying UPGP is extremely easy and quick. Even if you can't see the layer of the product where you applied it, it is there and a little goes a long way. If you are able to see it easily, it probably means you are applying too much of it. Once you get the hang of it, you will quickly realize that no other LSP out there is easier to apply than UPGP.:up

yeah, I have been using a round MF applicator but found it "builds up" too much really. I am going to go back to the brick on next application. hoping some nicer weather hits, I want to clay our Mountaineer first

I went ahead and used the brick applicator for my 2nd coat. I really don't see the point in another coat because the car looks incredible IMO. I used less product this time around, but I still think I used a hair too much.

UPGP is an awesome product. I never used Z-CS on my wife's GTP,but I've always used Z2 or Z5 Pro topped with Z8. I know that my wife's car looks better than ever though.

Like I said,Z5 Pro/CS/Z8 looks incredible on my red Formula too. When my Z5 Pro runs out,I'll probably try UPGP on it also.

Go for one more layer, 3 seems to be the magic number for this product. After 3 it won't make a difference. You can also top it with Z8 and it will look great, but alone is also amazing.

I agree 100% having found this out as soon as I usedit last summer... 3 layers =

Can I wait until tomorrow? I'll be busy today since it's Easter. How about a coat a week or so later,or do you have to immediately follow up??

That should be fine. Ultima has nice durability.

I was able to do another coat this afternoon, and boy does it look awesome!!!

However,I managed to get a nice streak on one side of the hood. I believe I did it on one of the prior coats though. I hope it will wash or buff off.

Sweet! It should buff right off. You can always spray it with some QD if you need to so that you don't have to wash it.
