UK peeps: what is available OTC?

I've been trying to educate my family (over the phone) on what to use to take care of their cars. They all live in London/Kent and I'm across the pond in Canada.

I sent my dad a kit at Christmas consisting of:

1. A sheep's wool mitt to replace the sponge

2. 5 microfibres to replace the rags

3. Some sponge applicators to replace the same rags

He also has some S100 which he picked up when they visited last year.

What inexpensive, easily available (e.g. Halfords) products can I suggest they buy? Specifically, a wash, polish, wax (for when the S100 runs out) and mf's? Don't suggest anything that is too pricey or only available on the web please.

Cheers!

Hi, greetings from the UK :up

As I beleive, Halford's are now starting to sell the consumer range of Meguiar's products OTC, such as Gold Class, NXT, applicators etc.

Failing that, large ranges of AutoGlym products (which actually produce good results) are available from many motor factor outlets throughout the UK.

How about having a look at www.seriousperformance.co.uk ? (web, I know, but he takes phone orders I think)

Alex is first class! Most products are more expensive over here but I got hooked after trying the Meguiars products that are mainly readily available. Megs UK has a website www.meguiars.co.uk where there is a dealer locator facility that you chould have a look for them.

Hi, more greetings from UK - (even further North.)

Have to agree with Nick - most motor factors are now beginning to stock Meguiars products (even up in Scotland) and Autoglym products have been available for some time (even from my local petrol station).

You could also check out the thread by LoweJackson regarding UK suppliers of other products:

if you look at some of the links provided you could get some useful tel Nos and addresses etc.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for all the suggestions. Yes, now I remember Halfords carrying Autoglym products - I left England 13 years ago.

So this is what I found:

Autoglym Bodywork Shampoo Conditioner

Autoglym Super Resin Polish

Autoglym Extra Gloss

My dad was technician at a Vauxhall dealer for 30 years before retiring. Maybe he can get the Sonax from there as an alternative to the Autoglym.

The Meguiars stuff is expensive huh? 15 quid for NXT tech wax - I don't think he'd spend that much. Then again he'd be more likely to buy that than both the Resin Polish and Extra Gloss...

Every branch of Halfords that I've been into, have got the NXT wax priced up at £8.99 - don't know how long it'll be before they notice the mistake, but the price has been £8.99 for quite some time... at that price, NXT wax is a very good buy IMO.
