-short version: what do you guys reccomed as wax for a super-crappy-uber-soft clearcoat?

-long version:

my mom drives a red Seat Ibiza (wich sucks as a car, btw) and it has the softest clearcoat i've ever seen.

a few days ago i polished the crap out of it. it had all the package of the most common to the worst kind of defects. swirls, scratches by all depths, water stains, bird droppings, tree sap.... you name it...

so i went to a 6-step 3m program in this order (by the colour code of the cap):

green with wool pad

green with green hard sponge pad

white with white soft pad

black with black soft pad

blue /blue pad

red w/glaze pad

=13hrs of hard work

all of the above were done after claying with a brand new clay, i used only BRAND NEW sonax microfiber towels........ long story short, i tried to do my best. perfection. as simple as.

then the fail came knocking on the garage door: i forgot i have no wax and my dad needs the garage.

i parked the Ibiza out in the shade, under a tree and went to buy my favourite wax.

when i came back 1 hour later, the car was full of light scratches all over it!!!

after we did some research, we understood what happened, and you wont believe this:

the scratches were caused by the leaves of the tree!!! my dad tried to just drop a leaf on the hood, and as it was windy, the leaf left a scratch right on the path the wind carried it. so its that, times 32951045 all over the car now.

what should i protect it with? of course, you understand that its my moms car, and its a 1.4liter 75hp engine, so i think it doesnt deserve any kind of wax that costs over 10$. also, i'm doing this for my mom, i cant ask her to go and buy something expensive.

but i would really like to do a perfect job on protecting this piece of s.... metal, cause everybody knows she is my mom and everybody will look at hers and my dads car before taking into consideration the thought of dealing business with me.

please help me, im stuck! (and pissed off, ill have to spend at least 3 more hours on the car to refinish it)

:noidea:

If it's truly that soft, I don't think a wax is going to protect it. Wax itself isn't hard like a shell that protects against scratches and physical paint damage. Are you certain there's not simply product left over on the paint that is showing marring in the oils or coating? If random leaves were enough to mar the paint, I would think that ANY microfiber would leave swirling or holograms. Not to mention, you wouldn't have had to polish with a full multi-step process to fix the paint -- a finish polish would have been enough and even then that would have left marring.

I would try wiping down a panel with isopropyl alcohol to remove all oils and residue and have another look.

Good luck.

uhm... now you made me think. what you say makes sense; how come the MF towel on the last pass (wiping residues from the glaze) didnt left any trace?

but then again... what oil or similiar chemical can whitstand a full stage of compouding and buffing like this one? i think the wool pad would clean all of that kind of crap by itself....

oh, and im absolutely 100% sure its not a leftover like you described.

...

omg my head is gonna explode!!!

as im totally out of any idea, i think i'll just try as you say. ill decontaminate the surface with alcohol and silicone removers then repeat the last 2steps of the polishing. then ill chime in back here with the news.

+1 on wiping down the car. I use spray detailer when I wash/dry, and in the sun today, I thought the car was covered with swirls. However, these were just towel marks left behind in the spray detailer. Respraying it and wiping it down got rid of them.
