Definately not the same company, and they both have different qualities, you can type in UDM in the search box and find a ton of info on them and the differences.

Actually Lynn emailed me several months ago and said "The new UDM is by Porter Cable and shares the same motor as the 7424." So if that is now the case, what was once supposed to be this great new/stronger machine that picked up what the PC lacked is now just really the same old PC??? I think the UDM ended up being a disaster. My friend went through 2 of them and I personally went through 3. Lynn was GREAT to deal with and they totally stood behind their product but but man that thing broke all the time.

If you can find an original UDM it is definitely more powerful than the PC. Problem is the reliability.
