UDM & Accessories Buying Advice

My wife told me she would get me a UDM for my birthday :getdown

So I would like some advice on what to get with it. I am a newbie and would like to get an instructional DVD, any suggestions on that would be very welcome. I will be using it on a her older car to learn. It has clearcoat failure, bad oxidation, and needs touch up paint. I had bought the SFX-1 and SFX-2 and was using a hand applicator. I got some results but it was a PITA or shoulder really. Should I continue to use those polishes with a UDM? Would I use touch-up paint before polishing?

We're going to replace her car within the next year. The other car we have is a new Mustang, so we'll have two new cars after I'm done practicing. Probably won't need heavy correction polishes after we trade in her car. I would like to transition to the Ultima line of detailing products and understand they'll have a swirlbuster of some kind. So I think that pretty much sums up the situation. I will need pads, pad cleaner, pad conditioner, backing plates?, polishes? Your suggestions are greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

You don't need an instructional DVD, to be honest. I took my UDM, stuck it to the paint, turned it on, freaked out, turned it off, tried again, and got it. Just be prepared for the dual action type movement and after that, it's cake. Seriously, you can just read the techniques online (work in 2x2 to 3x3 sections, mist pad, etc) and the rest you develop in the first minute of using the machine. Especially since you have a car to practice on, you'll be fine.

I just got my UDM and I'm a newb, I got the DAS Kit here because I got 15% off as I just joined this site Ultimate Detailing Machine Car Polisher Kit -- Porter Cable 7424 Alternative

You might like this better as its on sale this weekend Ultimate Detailing Machine Intro Kit

The UDM comes w/ backing plate so you can use 5-6.5" pads

I used some SFX-1 also and if you have bad scratched you will need an agressive pad and couple of passes.

The best vid that helped me is here Dual Action Orbital Polisher Guide: how to remove swirls, scratches, & oxidation with an orbital buffer. Porter Cable 7424, foam pads, backing plate,

there lots of instructions online and vids on the stores sites and youtube, its not hard and as everyone says its really really really hard to damage the paint.

Get some MF's at target, try some products and LC CCS pads are supposed to be good, good luck

Thanks for the responses. I think I'll probably get some lake country pads, some optimum polish, and optimum compound (so I don't dust form overuse). I still have to wait a month and a half, but I wanted to figure it all out now :)

Oh, and would I use touch up paint before or after using the UDM?
