U-Coat-It Epoxy Garage Floor Paint

I didn't take any before shots (a good thing), but trust me -my garage floor was looking pretty nasty.

I decided to epoxy the floor (again), add a few lights, and paint. -My summer project.

So here's the start of this summer's project.

I had an epoxy coating on the floor a few years ago and it was was total $%#& (Behr epoxy from Home Depot -POS product -trust me)

It cracked, blistered, lifted, and after a year it was a mess and I was pi**ed about it.

My boss ran into a product called U-Coat-It, and some of his friends said it was 'the go to floor covering'.

I was sceptical, because I spent the better part of 40 hours lifting my old floor -picture me shop vac'ing my yard of lead paint chips after blowing them off with a power washer. To say it was a mess is a huge understatement. Jack Daniels tried to calm me down, but he failed (LOL). It was A MESS!!!

Fast forward......

My (former) boss has a 3 car garage and it's abused.
We purchased a U-Coat-It kit 2 years ago and I wanted to see how it would stand up to his 4 kids, lawn tractor, scrapes from the kids, standing water, NE winters, etc...

It has been STELLAR!!!

So here I go again. This weekend I prepped the floor with Acid, and APC wash x 3, then applied the primer & base coat. Next weekend I'm topping it with the (optional) top coat, with some flake -which looks fantastic.

Here are a few shots of the project so far... (I applied the anit-slip product on the floor -which looks like sand).

Here's the effect that I'm after -next weekend's project (It will require another coat & fiberglass chips -i.e another $250), but it's not going to look REMOTELY close to this guy's garage:)

The standard application costs $0.44 per square foot, and goes up from there depending on what you want to do (patch, gloss finish, flake, etc...)
 
"Hey" the floor looks nice.I have always wanted to do this in my garage.
Is the application hard to do?
 
I've heard excellent things about U-Coat-It. If I knew we'd still be in this house after five years, I'd think about it.
 
After living in our house for 15 years, we had a bad flood in the garage two years ago & the (softened) water etched the concrete floor. I had the floor done by a local company (garagefloorcoatings.com). I must say I'm still as pleased as the day it was done :D

Funny thing about that colour combo, they had never had a customer request the grey w/red, white & blue flecks, so I chose it "blind" with no sample or photos of it to see. They were very clear that if I did not like the combo, there was nothing they would do about it & I would still have to pay for the job. Guess I'm just an "adventurer" ;)
 
I too did the UCoatIt floor. I've loved mine. I used their garage system with two clear coats on top. It ended up costing just under $1/sq. ft.

Man am I glad I read this. Coincidentally my roomate just moved out TODAY, and I finally get the garage back. I was planning on using the Home Depot Behr garage coating products. Man am I glad I saw this before I went out and bought the stuff.
Do you know what specifically caused the product to fail?

Moisture lifts the paint, and hot tires cause blistering/peeling. My neighbor used it on his floor and has the same problems. I think the Behr product would work fine on a basement floor, but it fails miserably in the garage.
 
I have seen this product on the Powerblock on SPIKE TV every weekend and have thought aout it. Nice to hear it is as good as they say. Might be a project in the works for me.

It's been over a month, and the floor has seen it's fair share of hot tires, water, A/C drip, etc... and I have ZERO lifting. I'm still planning to apply top coat (flake & gloss) before the end of the summer.

Joe P. -The most difficult part is prep (just like paint -LOL). I had to lift my old floor which took a month of Sundays with chemicals & a power washer. If you don't have to remove a prior coating, you have to degrease the floor and acid wash/etch. The U-Coat-It application is a breeze. My wife did the trim work in about 30 minutes, and it took me about an hour-each to mix up the product and roll the base and top coat.

That would explain why mine started to peel off. I will have to try this stuff. Those picks looks nice.
