two questions about paint

1. is orange peel typically in the base, or the clear? i mean factory as well as aftermarket work, and i mean high portions of the car, not necessarily chip guard type application down low on panels.

2. how much thicker is paint application vs. late model factory? i know, for instance, my new mazda has incredibly thin clear, they have it dialed down to the drop, but, on average, does a good body shop end up putting alot more paint on vs. factory? i'd guess yes, several times more, but i'm not sure and i don't have any means of measuring.

thanks!

Not too sure on your first question. But a detailer (or anyone) with a coating thickness gauge can almost always tell when a section has been repainted. It's inconsistent with the rest of the car, and usually much thicker (by 2 to even 6 times).
