turtle wax polishing compound

i have an 87 nisian maxima that i just got.the clear coat is just about gone.there is pin head size rust spots on the hood and roof.i found a can of turtle wax polish compound in the garage that i was going to use on it to start with. i have to apply by hand as i just moved to florida and dont have the extra money to spare right now. will this work or is there something better that i should use on the car at this stage or should i use that and then go to something milder after that b4 waxing and if so what products.please keep in mind like i said that i have to apply by hand thanks for the help

that's pretty agressive stuff from what i've read- try 3m scratch remover from Advance Auto or Scratchx

You might remove what's left of your clear coat with that.

o really i didnt know that. i will deffinatly try something less abbrasive

i saw two kinds of plishes and compounds for TW. theres was one with only polish and one that said polishing compound. wonder if thats less agressive?

the polishing compound is the agressive one-Scratchx is a much better product than either
