Truck Roof Detailing

I own a 2008 GMC Sierra Crew Cab, SLE, and it had a ton of water spots all over. Especially the roof. I washed it, then clayed it with Meg's white claybar. Next step was Menzerna Intensive Polish applied with the PC XP, then Menzerna final finish again with the PC. (Used the peach/orange LC pad for the IP, and the white pad for the Final Finish) Applied Po Boys Ex Sealant with a red pad, then hand buffed it. Next up was Meg's Gold Class for the LSP. Took the picture, then inadvertantly turned it upside down, but I think it made for a good pic.

Hope you can view the photo. Let me know what you think.

My apologies for the large picture; I'm not that great at cameras or uploads. I have uploaded a new pic that is a tad smaller. LOL

Thank you all for your patience. With the sun, and a halogen light, I'd say 80 % correction on the roof. Water spots are gone, and only a small amount of swirls, and spider webs remain.

I worked on the hood today; I was satisfied with the correction level. I have a small amount of swirling left on the hood scoop; nothing major, the hood looks really good. I'm finding GMC paint to be a hair on the orange peel side, and with a truck that is Stealth Grey - besides everyone having one that color, it's hard to make it pop and shine.

Again, thank you and my apologies.

Looked good on a 28" monitor at 1920x1200. :)

Cropping, resizing and posting is like heading for Carnegie Hall..... practice, practice, practice. I kinda liked it upside down!

My '04 Sierra has very slight orange peel. Pretty tough to even see it on a white vehicle. If you think it's tough to get gray to pop, try white! My recipe involves going for a Zaino-like garish shine with a sealant... my current choice is Opti Seal... then mellowing it with a carnauba. 845 or 915 topping Opti Seal is an eye-popping combo on white.

One of the problems with removing defects on a truck is getting into a position where you can work and evaluate. Much of the roof is accessible standing in the bed but that balancing act standing on the doorframes while trying to polish is almost impossible. Some of the best money I've spent recently was for a mini scaffold at Lowe's. About 4 ft long and about 24 inches high. Perfect for the roof and it puts you in a good posiiton for the hood as well, especially if you're dealing with something high like a 4x4.
