Truck Bedcovers

Having a heck of a time getting good opinions on bedcovers.

I have a 05 f-150 reg cab flareside and I'm not sure what bedcover I want to go with.

My main thing is when it's sealed up and I hit hard rain or wash the truck I don't want it to leak that badly. Having a locking bedcover isn't on the top of the list but some security would be nice.

I have the extang cover without the snap buttons. Its easy to get on and off and it only takes about 30 minutes or evn less (if your girlfriend isnt trying to help) to install. I have hit it hard with water to test its weather protection and it has minimal leakage. Not to mention the vinyl looks great when its all dressed.

I've been real happy with my Gaylord lid http://www.gaylordslids.com/home.php these were the lowest profile I could find. Removal takes two people in two minutes. Very easy, not heavy but too large to do by yourself. I find the truck more stable at highway speeds, even my passengers has noticed, I don't know if it's the weight or the aerodynamics, but much more stable on the interstate.

I just put a Retrax retractable cover on my '05 Silverado. I love it. It's a single piece of lexan that retracts into a box near the cab. It locks and seals and can't be opened witha knife, like a vinyl cover.

Right after I installed it, we had two straight days of rain and the only water that got in was through the holes in the stake pockets and that was very little - just damp.

I really like the fact that it can lock in any position. I just got back from a trip where we bought a couple of chairs for our living room and were able to put them in the back of the bed and roll the cover up to the chairs, locking the rest of our stuff in the bed. Since we had to travel 500 miles that way, it would have been impossible with a hard cover.

Thanks for all the info guys. I just got my refund check in the mail so it's time for me to pick which one I want and order it.

throttlethumb, I've really been thinking about the Extang. I wouldn't mind a soft cover. I had a painted cover but it just got so dirty fast and seemed to scratch easily. It also was heavy. Only thing I liked it is locked nice and tight so it would be hard to steal stuff out of the bed.

tomstin, I've heard Gaylord's are really nice but they're kind of expensive. Only problem I'm finding with the truck I have is not many people make bedcovers yet for the Flaresides :-(

Arc, do you have any pics of the Retrax cover? I've wondered about them but never have seen a good picture.

Here's a picture of my truck. It's not the best view of it, but shows how low profile it is:

There are some pictures on the Retrax site:

Thanks Arc. Like the look of that. Not sure if they make one for my bed style though.

I'm between the Truxedo Lo-Pro and the Access cover right now. Both of them are soft but pull tight so you don't have the cross beams giving you the covered wagon look. Probably will order one really soon. Withing a week.
