Hey guys. I'm having some troubles with my 2005 black Honda S2000 and was wondering if anybody could throw some light on the situation since I'm drawing blanks.
I've detailed my car three times now and everything is fine through the claying (any brand at the local store) and polishing (IP with Sonus orange pad and FP with Sonus green or blue). However, once the paint is slicker than glass and without a swirl in sight it should be ready for a glaze or LSP, right? Nope. It seems that whenever I use a wax (Souveran or 845 IW) or even a glaze (VM and #7), I get terrible marks on the car that appear to be oily in appearance and do not rub off. I thought that I wasn't removing the product so I tried hard rubbing with a MF, using QD, car soap, and even using my PC and MF bonnet. Nothing seems to take it off and by time I give up, I've marred the paint to the point that I might as well polish again. This happens if I apply by either PC (sonus black pad) or hand applicator (foam or MF).
Here are some possibilities that I've thought about:
Too thick? I don't think that I'm applying too much as I've had sucess with SG in the past so I know when thin is thin. Plus, with PC application, the coat seems pretty thin and even.
Weather? I live in Los Angeles and detail in a garage so weather is pretty optimal for most LSP application.
Contaminents? Possible but it seems like after IP and FP, the paint should be and is squeeky clean.
LSP taken off too soon or too late? Maybe. The IW was taken off either after 30 mins or after finishing the entire car. The souveran was the same. The VM and #7 were wiped immediately.
Any ideas? This is really killing me as I go through thread after thread about how easy the various LSP's I've used are easy to apply and take off. My last hope is a bottle of OCW sitting in my trunk but the thought of polishing the car for the fourth time in one year of ownership is crazy even by Autopian standards.
