Tropi-Care'd 2001 Mustang GT Convertible

I've been waiting to get a chance to detail this car. I used to own this car and sold it to my dad over a year ago. Since then it has had no polishing/waxing and barely any washing. I figured it was going to need some serious attention and I was right.

Prepped the car by going over the entire surface with Tropicare Swirl Cutter. I skipped claying because I thought the paint was too far gone to bother with clay. In hindsight I probably should have done both but the Swirl Cutter seemed to do a good job prepping the surface.

Followed up with the Tropi-Care polish. used the Tropi-Care Tire Dressing on the tires and hard plastic trim and the Big Orange for getting all the tar/grease off the lower portions of the doors, quarter panels, etc. Finished up with Zaino Glass Polish on all the windows and windshield.

Finally, my arsenal of products used on this car. Everything was applied with a PC and orange Lake County pads.

You'd be surprised. This car had a wierd sort of buildup on it Ive never seen before, almost to the point it was embedded in the clear. It looked a lot like acid rain but it was all over the car, everywhere. On all the side skirts, everything.

I thought about running over it with the swirl cutter and then claying but the swirl cutter/orange pad combo seemed to do a great job in getting rid of the contaminates. I didn't figure that claying would get me much more and the claying alone would not remove the buildup, I tried that first.

I'm curious about the Tropi-Care tire shine and how you applied it. It really looks very glossy (too much so for my personal taste), which is odd because I just purchased a bottle from Steve after he demoed it for me at a recent show. It was applied over tires which had 303 (don't tell Poorboy's Steve :o ) on them. My Wife really liked the look which can only be described as a "matte/gloss", or "bright, but not shiny". I will say that the look is different from anything else I've used. I will say that I've had it on for going on 4 weeks and in spite of the rains and washes, the tires still look good.

Well, since you asked :D

I cleaned the tires with TC Tire And Rim cleaner and a stiff bristle tire brush to get them as clean as possible. I've found that when you clean a tire to that extent, when you apply the TC Tire Shine, sometimes you don't get even coverage. So, I put two applications on, that's most likely why it has that much of a shine. Once you get a good base coat, usually going back with a coat to freshen things up gives a more toned down appearance.

But, you're right. The TC Tire Shine is pretty unique. Steve was going to change the formula and I told him that would be a bad move. I bought a gallon of it from him before I moved out of Texas just in case he ever gets the urge and changes it any way.

Two coats, that is what I thought you might say. What type of applicator do you use? Toweling or tire swipe?

Well, he didn't mention anything about a formula change, but that doesn't mean anything I guess. :) What type of longevity do you get out of your treatments? I'm pretty impressed how these tires look with all the rain we've had recently, plus my washes.

Nice car BTW. I'll bet that is a fun driver. Looks sharp too.

I used the Tire Applicator they sell on the Tropi-Care web site. Little sponge deal in a tub. Works real well and when you're done, just close it up. For under $3.00, I think its a bargain. Ive seen the same type of applicator for shoe polish also.

Far as longevity, I usually redo them every couple of weeks. They usually stay looking pretty good even at that point but I like to touch them up every few weeks.

He used that applicator for the demo. I didn't examine it closely, but it did resemble a shoe applicator.

I normally redo our tires weekly, but I was impressed with the performance of the product.

For customer's cars it is nice to have something that is possibly going to last until you see them again :)
